I think it’s tough to compare stats from different eras though too to be fair. It’s valid to have it a part of the conversation but the game has changed even since Hass played.

Just as it is difficult to compare different players from different eras. Comparing Hass and Geno straight up is pretty near impossible. The offenses, rules and players from the 2005 team to this team are entirely different.

However, I'd take Geno for this team and Matt for his.

If Geno had Holmgren as his coach he would weigh 20 pounds less from loss of his ass from getting it chewed out. Holmgren was intolerant of stupid plays if you went off script, guys went out of their way to avoid him if they could after making one, Hass was in fear of him for a long time, got over it but you better correct it or you seen the bench, Ask Dilfer.

I'm on personality alone. I could care less about the stats. Hass won us a superbowl, don't 'cha know? Oh yea - that's why I still HATE the Steelers.

One of my fav things was listening to his weekly radio appearance a couple? of years ago. Cool stories. And, ya, he was afraid of Holmey - he straight up said it.

I regret not realizing that he was on TV for a couple of years before he/they got cancelled.

I couldn't care less about the numbers when talking about him. And I want my friggin picture back!

Hasselbeck is my all-time favorite Seahawk and led the 'Hawks to their first ever Super Bowl appearance. I can't even pretend to answer this question objectively, so I won't.

He also played from the pocket like Geno, and I think one of the main differences in this era of football is the mobility of QBs which geno doesn’t seam to grasp so Matt would be fine, he had great accuracy and could get the ball out quick and was intelligent

Actually I changed my mind I bet drops are different now because of the crazy gloves. There should be less drops nowadays

The NFL in the 2000s was a completely different game all together. Kam Chancellor for example was one of the most feared defenders for his hitting. In the 2000s, there were multiple iterations of Kam Chancellor just lying in wait. Huge hits were the norm and even celebrated. Woodson, Troy Polamalu, Ray Lewis, Bob Sanders, Junior Seau, all of these guys would not be able to exist in the modern NFL. Even our very own Ken Hamlin would slam defenders to the turf.

There was no such thing as a "defenseless receiver". It was far easier to play press coverage too. Defenses used a lot more subterfuge, though we're getting back to that. Hitting the QB hard wasn't only lauded, it was expected.

Offenses were also a lot harder to run. There was a lot more emphasis placed on the QB's ability to do things pre-snap and deliver a strike at the end of a drop. QB's almost always lined up under center. I don't think it's a coincidence that the top QB's in the modern era, were also the top QB's back in the 2000s. Even when a decrepit Hasselbeck started for Luck in 2015, he put up some decent stats. The QB's from this era just had a way of manipulating and reading defenses that I don't see from many guys today.

I think a lot of the top QB's in todays game would struggle if they were forced to operate in the 2000s.

It's a tough comparison here. Hasselbeck was a lot better at diagnosing things pre-snap and going through his progressions. Hasselbeck also really was bankrupt when it came to physical talent. His arm was barely strong enough for the NFL. He survived because of his knowledge of the game. When he got older he would make the right reads, but get INT'd because his arm was dead and he couldn't make the throw.

I think people are forgetting how often Hass made stupid mistakes, specially early on with us. He tried to play like Farve without the arm talent. Holmgren wore his ass out nonstop. He didn't calm down until the o-line solidified and the running game took off. Without that running game and the best o-line in the league, he was average at best. Gritty and savvy, but he had a gunslinger mentality with a pee shooter arm.

Geno by a mile. He's just as aggressive, which does leas to picks, but he has the talent to convert more often. His aggressiveness, in my opinion, is necessary this season. Without it, we score less often than we already do. He's shown much better efficiency when we've had even a league average running game.

Are we really saying Geno couldnt go back to 2005 with that O line and that running game, to say nothing for the 7th ranked scoring defense and perform better than he has when he is literally playing with the opposite of all of that now?

How would his numbers even be close when he would have way less talent at the receiver areas, he'd be throwing a lot less, and he'd actually get mauled by the players hitting him in that day and age?
