Geno Smith is one of the best players in the league. What he is doing with this O line is nothing short of incredible. He is looking so poised out there. Should be getting dark horse mvp buzz
I don't disagree that Geno is doing well, but instead of a tiresome, pointless slog of debate, how about making it a "Geno for MVP QB Weekly Power Ranking"? thread and sharing a few widely shared rankings? This one has Geno at #10.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/qbr I'm not advocating for THIS specific measure, just that it was easy to find. What other half-decent weekly QB power rankings are out there?

I personally view Geno as in the #8-15 range, but if the Hawks line and defense improve, and Hawks go on a winning streak with Geno playing well... Wow that's a lot of IFs. Absent that, I don't see any MVP buzz forming around Geno.

MVP in a down year for QB play, but maybe.

Geno's been playing great despite a weak OL. He's surgical inside the pocket and he makes things happen outside of it. His halftime TD to Metcalf has been drawing national media attention for a good reason. Best football of his career right now.

No metric that's got Burrow, Murray, Carr, or Trevor Lawrence ahead of Geno will be entertained.

There are the Ringer QB rankings, in which Geno was ranked 9th last week (7th before our losing skid). I forget which poster posted this every week; otherwise, I'd credit them. Ringer

PFF has him 12th, the NFL QB index has him 10th, and he's 7th in success rate. The ESPN link you posted also has a variant of Passing EPA called PASS. It's a pretty good snapshot of pure passing, and Geno is ranked 4th.

You've tangentially touched on what it'll take for Geno to be in the MVP conversation. Let's distill it further. For Geno to be a legitimate MVP candidate, A) Seattle needs to be one of the top seeds, and B) Geno needs more TD passes. Even then, it's hard to imagine him catching someone like Allen, Jackson, or even Joe Burrow—who are collectively having all-time great seasons.

Thank you for the Ringer QB Rankings link!
Ringer listing Geno at #7 before the 3-game losing streak, and #9 after, seems very much on target to me. I didn't study their ranking methodology. I did notice you can re-sequence the list by trait, e.g. "Arm talent", "Accuracy", "Decision making", etc. Interestingly, Geno seems to be top 10 in nearly every one, but not top 5 in any of them.

Agreed, for Geno to even crack the top 5 in this type of ranking system, Seattle would have to go on a huge winning streak, be in the hunt for HFA in the final two weeks of the season, go nuts with TD passes with a 3:1 TD to INT ratio. Not 1:1, not this 6 TD 6 INT crap. Geno will need better OL protection and a good running game even without K9. Charbonnet isn't it. SF brings in this Isaac Guerendo kid and he lights up the Hawks for 99 yards. Hawks need their own Guerendo to emerge. Geno's had to carry the offense by himself too much. Yup, Geno would have to go on a Kurt Warner-esque TD binge.

I think Geno is top 10 but probably not top 5. However to be in the MVP talk, as others have said you need your team mates to play a part. While we have one of the best WR corps in the league we have one of the worst offensive lines. Apparently Lucas will be back in practise soon but even if when he returns Geno greatly reduces his INTs and sacks and gets more TDs and completions due to having time to pass his all season stats and hte NYC / CA bias of the media mean I can't see Geno being in the MVP conversation.

I agree Jeg...at this point in the season, Geno, IMHO, shouldn't be in any MVP talk. It's not just media bias, as I think, at this juncture it would be pretty hard to compare him to Goff, who I believe should be a frontrunner for MVP. But I guess anything could happen in the remaining games.

The bookies have Jackson, Mahomes, Allen and Goff all pretty close (in that order). Mahomes is there for what he has done in previous sessions and because the Media him, no way he should be in the conversation based on what he has done this seasion, however I think any of the other three would be worthy winners based on performance so far.

Geno is 10th in QBR and 20th in passer rating. So right in that 8-15 range which I think is fair. It’s also early enough in the season anything can happen. Allen has 12 touchdowns and zero picks, his running game isn’t great and he doesn’t have great receivers. He would be my front runner.

Burrow is at 14 TDs and 2 picks on a poorly-coached team with an OL that's just as ass as ours and I can't even remember who his RBs are.

10-15 range I'd say. Our team is winning games as a team, with complimentary football, rather than being single handily carried by Geno.

That guy running loose down the sidelines at 21 MPH has to terrify DB's - and basically any other humans present.
Totally. He looks as fast as ever. He must work really hard to adapt to all those miles on his chassis.

Damn I didn’t realize he was off to that good of a start.
