It IS ok to have an opinion on the QB, isn't it? Some think he's very good, some think he sucks and some are on the fence. Nothing wrong with having opinons.

At least there shouldn't be.

We're doing this routine again?

Yes, we're all already talking about our opinions on the quarterback. We're discussing our opinions. No one is stopping that from happening.

Come on man, I've already been put in timeout over this stuff. Not going there. You don't need to talk to me like I'm 5 years old. Change the record.

I'm not sure about this "growing up" thing but maybe something clicked in his noggin when he saw Purdy using his legs when the pocket was collapsing. Maybe the ol' light bulb clicked on.

Opinions are like ....... everyone has one.

Just don't quite get the hand wringing over whether Geno is the right QB.... He is not a Top 5, future HOF'er. But let's just look at the data.....

Hawks - 2nd best Passing team in the league - 261 ypg
10th in total offense
Geno - 4th in total passing yards - 2781
Geno - 7th in completion pct - 69%
Geno - tied for 5th with 18 dropped passes by receivers

BUT......
28th in Rushing offense - 91 ypg
4th most sacks allowed - 32
Defense - 22nd in yards allowed - 350ypg - bottom 1/3rd in the league
3rd most penalized team in the league - 2nd most offensive holding calls &
tied for 3rd with most false starts

What the DATA says is this..... Geno is NOT the problem. The below avg offensive line is the problem. Drive killers - sacks, holding calls and false starts. Seattle is one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to those three things. K9 is a hell of a back. But this O-line is garbage. So it all falls on Geno's shoulders. The defense is bottom 1/3rd in the league. So basically anyone that has the OPINION that Geno is the issue.... i just chuckle at.

Great post but i doubt it gets much discussion because it squashes the argument that he is average.

Hes been better than average in terms of overall output with a questionabke team around him.

Thanks for posting real, quantifiable fact.

That's an interesting take. How did Geno grow up today? He looked like the same guy he's been for 3 years to me.
He found some courage to take the extra steps on the winning drive

Before that he was on his way out, now there is about 5% chance

Geno was average this game. His best drive was his last drive. When he used his legs. If he would do this more often he would look better in games. Imo.

Sounds like someone is trying to justify an earlier over-critical opinion by saying "OK, he's finally getting it."

Problem with the internet is that everything always has to be described in superlatives. It's either the "best ever!" or the "worst crap sandwich I've ever been served." No subtlety seems to be allowed.

Geno seems to float around being a #10-ish rated QB. Not the GOAT and not Joe Schlabodny either. It's okay. He is hardly the biggest problem this team faces this year. Guy has some fire in his belly.

I don’t want to see any more game winning drives from Geno.

Never understood why that was considered a metric of a good team/QB.

This is not a critique of Geno.
Yeah, it's great when you know the moment isn't too big for your QB. Looking into it a little though, game winning drives seem to be a bit overrated as a counting stat.

Top 5 last season in GWD:
1. Geno Smith (5)
T2. Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Russell Wilson, Desmond Ridder (4)

Those five players combined for one playoff victory. Three of them missed the playoffs entirely, and two were cut by their respective teams in the off-season.

Meanwhile, the four QBs make their conference championship games had just five COMBINED. Goff had three, Mahomes had two, Purdy and Lamar had zero.

Over the two seasons prior to this one, only three QBs had more than Kenny Pickett (7). Josh Allen had nine, while Geno Smith and Kirk Cousins had eight. Pickett was traded this past off-season for scraps and looks unplayable as a backup in Philly.

None of that is to say they're bad or anything, just that they need context if they're being used to rate quarterbacks.

There is only one Patrick Mahomes, only one Lamar Jackson and only one Josh Allen. Since you don't have one of those, the question is do you want to pay $40-50 million a year for Trevor Lawrence, Kirk Cousins, Deshaun Watson, Daniel Jones, Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr?

Or do you want to draft the next Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson or Zach Wilson?

Granted, there are other QBs better than Geno like Joe Burrow or Jared Goff, but you're not getting them.

I don’t think anyone is saying he is THE issue though. That’s not the debate.

??? I mean you can't win them all but game winning drives are nothing new for Geno. Neither is putting us in position to have one.

Geno played better when Bosa went out for sure, but I don't think that constitutes 'growth'. It wouldn't hurt to roll him out or do things to slow down the opposing pass rush. He's such a statue back there, the pass rushers know where they have to go before the ball is snapped.

Also, a lot of game winning drives means you're in a lot a one-score games. It's easy to be clutch when you have 4 downs to play with instead of 3. I'm looking forward to watching other teams play with desperation in the last 2 minutes instead of us.
