The Seattle Mariners released catcher Mitch Garver on August 4, 2026, alongside outfielder Rob Refsnyder. Garver's roster spot was opened to make room for catcher Jhonny Pereda, who was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma, following the team's acquisition of Taylor Ward. [1, 2]

What do you do with Canzone? Randy should DH and Canzone should be the everyday LF. Ward is going to be in RF, I think. I could be wrong on that.

As much as I think it's over, can't help but be at least a little intrigued at the thought of Donovan and Ward in the lineup. And NO MORE Sniffles or Strikout Garver.

I think the roles are finally starting to get defined, and players are beginning to understand exactly what their role is on the team. The problem before was that Dan never really set the tone. It wasn't, "You're the everyday DH," or, "You're the right fielder against left-handed pitching." There was too much uncertainty and constant changing of plans.
It was always, "We can go here or there," or, "Maybe we'll use a six-man rotation. No, let's do the piggyback." That's all gone now. Players know their roles and what's expected of them.
The message is simple: perform your role and produce. If you don't, you could be gone in the offseason.
