My Spotify playlist is wickedly eclectic, another 50's-ish dude here. When I'm not feeling too lazy I'll expand on the list of artists I listen to but one of my favorites is The 1975. Been listening to them for some years now and just really dig their vibe.

Unfortunately even your "newer bands" are 10-15+ years old.

I do like some of the bands you've mentioned here, as I'm a big alternative music fan. So Broken Bells, Joywave, etc are solid bands.

Awolnation
MGMT
Young the Giant
Snow Patrol
Band of Horses
The Lumineers
Head and the Heart
Death Cab
The Decemberists

As far as what I'd consider "new," as in the last 2-3 years? Check out Odesza, Tame Impala, Lord Huron, the 1975, Sam Fender, Glass Animals.

I'm in my 50's, so I could write a book on what I think is wrong with music, and some of these newer groups and artists are proof positive that we're kinda in this black hole of EDM adjacent light generic pop music.

There really isn't rock in the sense we know it. Dangerous, rebellious, anti-authority, loud, obnoxious, brash, even offensive. That doesn't exist. None of the 4-5 giant conglomerates that control all of radio now would allow that. They want safe.
I love the Lumineers. Their first album is one of my favorites of all time.

S when speaking of Zeppelin copy bands one that comes to mind was Kingdom Come from the late 80s and Jason Bonham

Also going back to the '80s (and '70s), wouldn't Aerosmith, Heart, and especially David Coverband Coverdale's Whitesnake qualify as Zep copy bands?

Of course, Coverdale came from a band whose most-famous riff was stolen from a little-known-to-non-musicians-outside-Brazil samba artist.

Montrose, White Snake, Even newer bands like Soundgarden, White Stripes and Wolfmother stole heavily from Zeppelin either vocally, riff wise, etc.

But hey, hard not to emulate the greatest band in the history of rock. What did Bono once say, every artist is a thief.
Let us not forget the great Dread Zeppelin.

That was totally in sarcasm if there was any doubt.

No on the aerosmith thing. Full of shit if he actually said that. Again, the biggest problem with Greta is they deny what is obvious.

I was completely turned off by them when they had the audacity to say Zepp wasn't an influence. What a crock. I saw them live and after the third song I was bored as hell. His soaring vocals is cool for about 20 minutes and then it's yawn.

Good to know. A band I can skip seeing live then.

They seem to have gone a little over-the-top fruity now too. Trying too hard.

Fruity? Lol. I don't even know what that means.
Below doesn't feel like a natural progression. It feels like trying hard to be something they are not. Their choice though and they have a bigger following than ever. Nothing wrong with where they are now, just feels calculated image like Russ. If it really is who they are then not fruity, just doesn't feel like that.

They went from this:

To this:

Yeah fruity works.

My guess is this is who they were all along, and like most bands they get persuaded by their managers and labels into being something safer and more appealing to the masses.

You could easily be right, I still think my thoughts on it are more likely though.

The first picture, while staged, looks natural. The second looks like total bullshit.

I just have a casual knowledge of Greta, so I can't say with any certainty of what their look or vibe is.

I do know that their main audience is Millennials and Gen Y (their peers), with some casual older rock fans sprinkled in. They play younger music festivals. So it doesn't surprise me that they like to glam it up and broaden their basic rock sound.
