Does Grubb respect Walker, Charbonnet?

Is that why the running game is bad? Cuz our two RBs don’t have a recognizable name? If Seahawks signed either Derrick Henry, Saquan Barkley, or Josh Jacobs in FA, Grubb would have the offense run the ball more. Henry or Barkley would adjust to this bad oline.

I think the sadder yet simpler answer is Grubb just isn’t good at designing a running game.

I think a simpler explanation still is the fact that our offensive linemen can't seem to move bodies out of the way. It's so bad that if we start of running in the earlier downs we end up with third and long.

A good coordinator would be designing around the defenses rushers. We seem to run very basic run plays putting the onus on the line to open wholes. If done well plays can be designed to naturally create wholes. K9 does a good job of getting away from first contact but he’s sent into the heart of defenses way too often.

I honestly don't think that a good coordinator can overcome subpar talent and performance. I mean when the center off the offensive line (center, guard and center) keep getting shoved back into the running back, I think there is a serious problem with the quality of the offensive linemen.

If the center is blown up you design runs outside or add blocker in the middle. There is always a way for a good coordinator to find strengths and use them and scheme around weakness. We have three top notch receivers who should take pressure off the run game but they aren’t. I believe that’s because we usually only try basic run schemes and only in mostly obvious run situations. I don’t think our play calling surprises anyone.

Of course that depends on why the middle of the line is getting shoved back into the backfield. If they are getting shoved back straight up, which is what it is looking like, running away from the middle of the field doesn't work.

I agree with this take.

----

Also, I want to point out that despite what Sanchez kept saying in the announcer booth last Sunday, we actually ran the ball at one of our higher rates against AZ, was close to league average for percent of running plays that game.

It was also our second worst game for getting stuffed at the LOS and one of our worst games for rushing success rate.

We didn't try to avoid running the ball last week. We ran the ball, we just failed at it. Repeatedly.

This is on our offensive line, yes, but we also dropped a lot of the creative run plays that we were using against San Francisco the previous week (no jet sweeps, no gives to the up back, no designed QB runs) that a good coordinator uses when he knows his offensive line stinks to high heaven in the standard running game.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not singing the praises of our offensive line but our running game is too basic and that starts at the top. I want to see improved run scheming AND blocking.

We need more out of Charbonnet but inside runs are ill advised with current situation with the IOL

I wish it was that simple.

The scheme just isnt great yet under Grubb. Whether it will get better and he finds his way ... we shall see.

Good breakdown around 55 or so minutes in.

The team truly seems weak run blocking and our interior OLine seems to be missing those nasty dirtbag type guys that can push the pile.

To the thread question the running lanes are not being blocked well even if Grubb respects both RBs.

I thought Christian Haynes was going to be one of those nasty guys but it appears something is lost in translation to him, or he just is not strong enough or the team has other as yet unrevealed issues with him. Am curious about Laura and hope he’s a masher. I have thought Olu has played better than just adequately in the past two games but he seems as well to lack power and seems to be a better pass blocker than a run blocker. Needed power seems to be missing in our undistinguished LGs game. They rarely move the pile. Tomlinson has played well elsewhere so it’s hard to know if it’s scheme or inability with him. Something is missing across the interior

Don’t know if it’s weak coaching or physical inability though the former seems possible as well.

People blaming Grub. Why did the running game suck before he got here? There seems to be one constant and that's an O-line that gets blown up on run plays consistently. It's on Grub to fix it but you can't ignore the fact that this problem existed long before Grub got here.
