Think of the 2024 season as a 17-game preseason.
Perfectly put.

Although I don't know exactly why MM made this decision, it does give me hope that he's the right guy and has the stones to make the tough decisions in shaping the roster. Extra points to Schneider being with him on it despite being a FA signing that he brought in.

Proof this is nothing more than an evaluation season. Any wins are simply cherries on the top. Mike is in full evaluation mode to see which players he is going to keep and which players won't make the cut. Think of the 2024 season as a 17-game preseason.

This allows me to relax somewhat, and just watch the games without any expecations or hope to challenge for the division.

2025 may be a much, much more interesting - and hopefully satisfying - year.

Not sure how to read this move and will be interested to hear if something comes out in a behind the scenes sort of way that adds more insight into this decision.

I know we had a lot of problems at the second level with Baker and Dodson continually getting washed out on their run gap assignments, but moving Dodson over with the signing of Jones IV seemed to improve that in the last game.

I'm assuming Knight is going to start taking Dodson's reps? Does Jones get the green dot now?

This is a healthy perspective to have. The move catches me totally off guard though. Dodson has been the top 1/2 in tackles in most games and I thought he was playing really well all things considered. If it's to make room for Jobe (and I agree we need to make room for Jobe...dude balls out), then why a starter? That being said, I don't know exactly what MM is looking for in our ILB's and he knows where/how those guys need to play. As with any player on the team...if we can improve by releasing someone that has some level of fan support, than so be it.

I do like the leadership and command message these recent moves have sent. Really curious who will step in and start next game at weakside.

I doubt Dodson makes it through wavers...so good luck to him except against us.

I love this initially. Dodson and Baker are trash. But does this save any money?? Is it a message? Could atleast keep him as a backup if it doesn't affect budget.

Can't stop the run? Get released.

Accountability is one of the most important things in life and I love that we are operating this way.

The thing that concerns me is JS's FA choices. I know the market wasn't that great but goddamn, both FA LB's didn't even make it to week 11.

They most likely got to watch all of the tape to find out the root of the problem. Dodson had to be one of the problems, I mean it make sense.

It only saves us money if another team claims him off waivers. Otherwise, I think we take the full hit of his contract (which was incentive laden).

Released instead of traded or benched., releasing means we will still be paying him, right? Ummm, could it be that:

He wasn't coachable? Or, no teams wanted to trade for him? And/or he asked to be released upon im ring benched?

Otherwise why not bench him as a backup.

Signing the guys to replace Brooks and Wagner just to see those two gone mid season. What a failure of LB signing and evaluation.
Some may consider what you said as hating or disrespecting our Macdonald, a certified defense and LB guru.

This means both the LB FAs acquired in the offseason didn't last a single year. Terrible signings. At least they got Ernest Jones for one of them.
