Howell is young, and needs more coaching up and playtime to fully realize his potential. If all goes well, one day, he can and will play at the level of current Geno Smith. I have no doubt about it.

Just be patient and give the kid opportunities, the couple of years that he needs to fullfil his destiny.

He would probably say Goff is way better than Howell.
or, he identified Howell as the next Brady, and all Howell needs is better coaching and more opportunities. It's for Ben to know and us to speculate, right?

No way. Brady won the Super Bowl his second year. About all Howell has shown is that he might be a servicable backup. The Seahawks need to draft a QB.

Where will Johnson end up? Vegas? Chicago? New Orleans?

If he doesn't end up in Chicago, maybe the Hawks can recoup the pick they spent on Howell. It seems like he might have David Carr syndrome. He got absolutely hammered in Washington, Bienemy didn't even try to protect him with a running game. It seemed like Bienemy was trying to get Howell killed.

I can appreciate that. Poles failure to build an offensive line even after 3 years was a big factor in Williams 67 sacks with the Bears.

If the goal is to play to the level of Geno Smith, then the bar is very low. Howell is young enough to develop above an average QB standard. After 12 years in football, if a said has trouble reading defenses, he's not a bar I would want anyone to strive for.

I completely understand why the team WILL continue next season with Geno. That does not make me a Geno lover, it just means I understand why the team WILL go in that direction

On Howell, just over a million dollars for a back up QB with starting experience is something not to hate

Football will bless Howell with pro bowls, and not just one, but two with the possibility for even more.

People are still being too hard on the dude for one outing. No one remembers when Kirk Cousins came in against Seattle in the playoffs and played almost as bad as Howell did? He went on to have a fantastic career. A lot of people around the league like(d) Howell.

I think the dude has potential. Grubb did him zero favors. Straight idiotic playcalling.

And to be fair he may be really bad. I just remember him torching us as a rookie, watched a highlight tape and he flashes some talent, Ben Johnson if he took the job wanted Howell as his guy etc. I’m not giving up on him.

His lowlight reel is tough, but the dude made some throws last year that were incredible. There was one he tossed against the Broncos that was 9.9/10 level of difficulty insane. And, he has grit and can make plays when you need them.

This is very true, he should've been using the running game in that situation and given Howell time to get his feet under him.

The problem, though, with that game is that it reinforced the read on Howell coming out of Washington. The big knock on him was that he can't adjust to NFL level defenses and that's how he looked again. Yeah, adjusting to no longer being the best athlete on the field is tough for rookie QBs coming into the NFL (ask Caleb Williams...), but Howell's in year 3 now.

He's got the flashes for sure, so I do not consider him a lost cause, but the red flags are there. Howell is still young, and I don't know what the read is on him in the Seahawks front office, so I could be off. But I think they should be open to drafting a QB if they see one they like fall to their spot in the draft.

Ben Johnson is overrated. What a dumb playcall to have a WR throw a pass. Looks like the Lions aren't going to the SB this season.
