Isn't Geno getting 40 million? That's the same as Russell right now.

I think you're mixing up Smith's 2024 dead cap number ($40 million) with actual money he gets ($26.4 million).

On topic: it's hard to watch Wilson lead the Steelers to wins, but if it continues to work well then good for him.

Nonsense. No he didn't. The worst decision Seahawks made was the "Let Russ Cook" meme that took off around 2016-2017 (besides letting him go). It forced Russ to play like Peyton Manning. Dumb move. Russ fits best with a team that plays defense and can run the ball. Then when you catch the defense off guard he can hit you with the deep ball. Plus Manning, Brees, and Brady had better Olines.
Maybe go back and read the entire post. S.l.o.w.l.y if you need to. Because everything you just said about Russ's game agrees with what I posted.

Russ was never going to be successful in a complex Manning/ Brees style offense, with a coach like Payton. He was a terrible fit. Problem is, he believed, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that he could be that type of QB, and he believed that Pete was holding him back. The only way he was ever going to learn that the limitations that Pete placed on him were for his own good was to go to a place where he was allowed free reign to be the QB he thought he was. Most of us predicted exactly what happened.

Having learned his lesson, he can go back to playing in a system that caters to his strengths, and masks his weaknesses. The ball control kind of system that can salvage his bid for the HOF. I mean, I would hope he has learned his lesson now.

For the three seasons from 2022-2024, Russell Wilson earned a guaranteed $162.2 million. By comparison Geno earned a guaranteed $43.5 million.

Performance escalators likely earned Geno a few million more, though I'm not going to bother researching which ones he has hit.
