I'll take the loss on Waldron. I thought he wasn't as bad as many believed he was. Geno had a good first year with him too. Cmike and other seahawks film guys thought he was underrated. I've noticed though with the film guys is that I think they look at things differently. Griffin sees the schemes and play calls and says "Waldron is calling all the right plays that everyone else is calling" Which is true, but where they miss the mark in my opinion is calling a game involves much more then that. Its what you're calling and when you call it. They said the same thing about Pete and his DC's and then all of the Pete apologists eat it up and come here and say Pete is doing adapting and calling different stuff. But its painfully obvious 3 weeks in Macdonald and Grubb are just light years better on both sides of the ball. Not a knock on the film guys who are an awesome resource or Pete or whoever but to its a tough sell to say the new staff hasn't improved the coaching on both sides.
This is why I always say I think Waldron is a talented offensive mind. I think he's good if you have him as a pass/run game coordinator or an offensive analyst. Get him in the booth looking at play design and trends.
He just doesn't have the right feel for calling a game on the fly. It's like he doesn't have his sea legs. He doesn't move with with motion of the ocean. He calls plays like I do in Madden - very ADHD, very "shiny object."
I'm even more convinced of this being the case when I think back to how awesome his scripted drives were. They were always balanced, always attacked weaknesses well, kept the defense backpedaling.
He's obviously got some smarts. He obviously knows the game. I just don't think he's playcaller material.
