After the Getsy debacle, Poles said he wanted to hire an offensive coordinator with actual OC experience and a guy who could help develop Williams.

He inherited this offensive line. Now we’ll see if he has the skills to salvage something out of it. That won’t be easy, making a silk purse out of a pig’s ass.

My big complaint about Waldron with the Seahawks was his ultra-conservative, unimaginative play calling in the red zone. Nothing has changed with the Bears.

Our generational talent is wearing a wrist band to improve his game. Sounded like he and Russell Wilson both process play calls slowly.

100% of the AFC South's wins outside their own division have been against the Bears.

I'll take the loss on Waldron. I thought he wasn't as bad as many believed he was. Geno had a good first year with him too. Cmike and other seahawks film guys thought he was underrated. I've noticed though with the film guys is that I think they look at things differently. Griffin sees the schemes and play calls and says "Waldron is calling all the right plays that everyone else is calling" Which is true, but where they miss the mark in my opinion is calling a game involves much more then that. Its what you're calling and when you call it. They said the same thing about Pete and his DC's and then all of the Pete apologists eat it up and come here and say Pete is doing adapting and calling different stuff. But its painfully obvious 3 weeks in Macdonald and Grubb are just light years better on both sides of the ball. Not a knock on the film guys who are an awesome resource or Pete or whoever but to its a tough sell to say the new staff hasn't improved the coaching on both sides.

Game Over. If there was any debate as to how hamstrung this offense was under Waldron over Geno's first 2 years here, let this once and for all settle it.

Smith managed to actully make the offense respectable. But the deficiencies we have seen in the performance of the run game, the o-line and our inability to establish any semblance of consistency or identity ... those have been entrenched on this team now for 3 years... enherited and continued by Grubb.

This offense has been called by a man who will likely never serve as OC again after being let go in Chicago, and another who's abilities are increasingly being questioned.

Folks need to cut the current Seahawks QB a break. What you see every Sunday is lemonade being made from a playbook full of lemons.

He does need to play a heck of a lot better; he has said as much himself. Many problems on this team for sure. We need more from him, imo.
Better decision making will make all the difference in the world.

This is why I always say I think Waldron is a talented offensive mind. I think he's good if you have him as a pass/run game coordinator or an offensive analyst. Get him in the booth looking at play design and trends.

He just doesn't have the right feel for calling a game on the fly. It's like he doesn't have his sea legs. He doesn't move with with motion of the ocean. He calls plays like I do in Madden - very ADHD, very "shiny object."

I'm even more convinced of this being the case when I think back to how awesome his scripted drives were. They were always balanced, always attacked weaknesses well, kept the defense backpedaling.

He's obviously got some smarts. He obviously knows the game. I just don't think he's playcaller material.

He can improve. But you dont get much more than lemonade from lemons.

Give him some mint...

Some coconut juice

Rum.

Pretty sure the dude could make a pretty good drink if he there were more than lemons to work with.

Guess I have some crow to eat. I really didn't think he was that bad. Apparently he is.

I will have to say this though, I think anybody would struggle as an OC in Chicago.

If the Bears are patient they might be able to get Lincoln Riley as OC (if they are prepared to pay). He would probably salvage Williams. They might be able to work with USC so USC don't have to give him a big pay off. It's not working out there.

Problem is Bears ownership have always been cheap but if they want to protect their investment, might have to pay.

Agreed.

I think he's not OC material, but I also don't think he's as bad as the Bears have made him look here.

Just a brutal, brutal place to coach.
