1. Aggressive Pass Rush

The 49ers rely on Brock Purdy’s efficiency and quick decision-making. If we bring relentless pressure and disrupt his rhythm, we can force him into mistakes. The key is making him uncomfortable in the pocket early. If we can get to him and force quick, pressured throws, it could lead to turnovers and stop drives before they start.

2. Tight Man Coverage on Key Weapons

Even if McCaffrey is limited or out, they’ve still got Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle. Seattle’s secondary needs to bring its A-game, using tight man-to-man coverage to shut down their big-play options. Blanketing these receivers will limit Purdy’s targets and keep him in check.

3. Attack the 49ers’ Linebackers with Mismatches

San Francisco’s linebackers are quick, but they can be stretched. Using pre-snap motion, tight ends, and slot receivers can create mismatches and force the linebackers into tough spots. Attacking the middle of the field can keep the 49ers on their heels and open lanes for our playmakers.

4. Establish Our Own Fast, Physical Tempo

We need to play fast, physical football right from the start. Bringing physicality early – especially with our O-line pushing their defensive front – sets the tone. Establishing our ground game will keep San Francisco’s defense honest and create space for play-action passes to get explosive downfield plays.

5. Capitalize on Every Scoring Opportunity

Against the 49ers, touchdowns are a must. No settling for field goals. When we get to the red zone, we need creativity and precision – whether it’s sending Metcalf on jump balls or finding Lockett in tight windows. Make every drive count and keep the momentum rolling.

6. Defensive Discipline and Force Turnovers

The 49ers are a well-coached team that rarely beats itself, so we need to stay disciplined and capitalize on any small mistakes they make. Our defense must play smart, stay aggressive, and go for turnovers. A couple of key picks or fumbles could be game-changers.

If we hit them hard from the get-go, control the line, and keep their offense under pressure, we can take this game. It’s all about setting the tone early, not backing down, and playing with intensity for all four quarters. Let’s go out there and show the 49ers who runs the NFC West!

This is the NFL, anything can happen. This entire season has been a trip around the league. It's not like the Niners can't be knocked off.
They're 2-3 ffs. Just sayin. Do I think we win on Thursday? Probably not. But we certainly CAN.

So what you're saying is that all the Seahawks need is a new offensive line, a new defensive line, a new secondary, and new offensive and defensive schemes they haven't been using so far this season?

Yeah, seems doable by Thursday.
Yeah, now that you mention it, we’re absolutely f#%#ed in that regard. Worth the optimism though. lmfao.

I do believe this coaching staff will gel and figure it out. We’re dealing with a bunch of rookies on the coaching staff, remember that.

Sorry bro, I don’t want to be on the coaching carrousel every year. I believe MM can get it done. It’s hard to win in the NFL and he coached top defenses for a reason.

I’ll take this optimism over another 9-8 Pete season.

No need to be a negative Nancy. Lame.

Purdy is still much better than many Seahawks fans give him credit for so we have to disrupt his timing and I’m worried with guys still out it’s going to be very tough. But Giants fans thought the same thing going into Seattle so let’s go!

My worry is that we are just too soft in the trenches and there is nothing coaches can do to fix that. If you are getting blown off the LOS every down, things have to go right for you to win a ball game. We need more beef.

Purdy has never had to be good to beat us. Once SF establishes the run, he can play action and drop passes behind the LB's all day.

What MM does best is confuse QB's in the passing game. That is predicated on stopping the running game. If the D can't do that, it's game over.

OK, I get how you could read it that way. I wasn't responding in a negative way to this season's results. I was never on board with the people predicting 11-13 wins for the Seahawks this season, and I was (and am) fine with having realistic expectations. The defense has looked like real crap, but as I said in in another thread, that doesn't mean Macdonald is a bust. Because I never saw this as a team with 11+ wins in 2024, I'm not disappointed with where the team is now.

I was responding to your comment, where you say basically "all the Seahawks need to do to win on Thursday is...," followed by long and detailed list of things the Seahawks just haven't been doing this season. I find that pretty damn funny.

This Seattle team is consistently inconsistent. I don’t know what will happen but I do know the backups aren’t talented enough to beat anyone. The offensive line can’t protect and the defensive gets ran on. Doesn’t seem like a recipe for success unless Seattle gets their best players back and sees something on film they can exploit. I’m going to stop expecting Seattle to win automatically because Seattle just isn’t talented enough right now to “skate by” strictly on their individual talents, the team lacks a bonafide vocal leader and Seattle has too many holes they have not yet patched up….

The Giants game plan anticipated our desire to be aggressive on the rush and had built in to their game plan an automatic switch to screen outlet which produced their most successful offense for the day. Over and over an over again they burnt us with the screen. And they aren't the first team that has killed us with that move...anyone recall previous meetings with the Niners?

Did AI write this? I mean, that's about as boilerplate as you can get on how to play good football.

I hope your right OP, I’ll be rooting like hell you are.

That said,

The Niners are still the far superior team on paper and have proven it against us on the field the last few years. With Murphy and Nwosu out, I think it will take a mistake laden game by the Niners to squeeze out a W.

As long as they go down swinging, I don't mind a loss on Thursday. If they look like crap and/or just hand the game away, I mind a lot.
Like our games with Detroit. Many of them could have gone either way, and both teams walk out of that game with their heads up after a hell of an effort.

Haha, fair point! I get where you’re coming from. I’m not saying all those changes are a quick fix, and yeah, I get that it’s a big list.

Honestly, I was just hyped up about what could happen if things click. I totally agree that expecting 11-13 wins was ambitious, but I guess I’m still holding out hope for those flashes of greatness we’ve seen in the past.

And yeah, the defense has been rough, but I’m with you — Macdonald isn’t a bust just yet.

Let’s just see how it all shakes out on Thursday and the rest of the season!

Pass rush does not bother Purdy as much as less mobile Qbs. He is slippery like Wilson used to be. Very fast short area quickness, difficult to get a bead on. Pass rush likley to lead to a QB scramble

Turnovers were key in all 3 of their losses this year

CMC is definitely going to be out. I agree tight man to man is going to be important in obvious passing situations, but stopping the run is going to be more important so that 3rd and long is presented

Particularly against DeVondre Campbell. He is a liability in the pass game. 49ers are really missing Dre Greenlaw

49ers not as strong against the run as in years previously. Seahawks would be wise to mix in more runs and run a more balanced O. 49ers D can be susceptible to no huddle

Again, maybe not as much as you think. Although the 49ers currently have the number 2 offense overall they have been stalled in the redzone this year which can likely be attributed to the loss of CMC. He scored a lot of TDs last year. 49ers redzone offense currently 29th!!! in the league
