We saw a team with injuries, we saw a young team coming off a valiant performance and then looked at the Giants record thinking we got this. Mac took the responsibility, said they came out and executed and we didn't. He will learn from this, and I bet the players are as well today, that was an embarrassment for him.

Paraphrasing what Williams said after the game how the team appeared to underestimate the Giants coming into the game. It sure looked that way to me.

I have no doubt this was a classic example of a team looking past what they assume is an inferior opponent to the big game ahead.

I take it back when I said in another thread over the weekend that teams don’t get cocky about the team they play, that’s our jobs. Boy was I mistaken.

Williams also mentioned how disappointed he was to see the team quickly get down in the game. He said how often games come down to the final two minutes so you need to stay focused and together like a family.

This game placed just how far we have to go in so many facets right under the microscope.

Let’s see how they respond Thursday.
I saw a lot of poor body language but I wonder who he was directing that towards .

Specifically.

Whomever they are , I don't want them around.

Yesterday looked like a Pete Carroll coached team…..yes, I said it!

Everything about yesterday’s game was reminiscent of Pete Carroll….
In week 1 the Bengals expecting the Pats to be a pushover
In week 2 there were shock defeats for the Ravens, Lions and Whiners (OK for the 49ers that might be more that the Vikings were actually better than people realised, but the 49ers probably were overconfident as well)
In week 3 the Buccs were on a roll after beatig the Lions only to fall to the useless Broncos, Watson was a servicable QB in week 2 so they didn't expect the heels to fall of against the and the Bengals and 49ers fell dispite being -6 or more for the 2nd time in 3 weeks
In week 4 it was the Jets turn, losing to the Donks
In week 5 As well as the Giants being us the 49ers lost to the Cards

None of those teams were coached by Pete, its painful when it happens and this is the first time for 15 years we have suffered a shock defeat with anyone other than PC as HC but I would be surprised if Pete's record in games we were heavy favorites was worse than other HCs.

Both the Lions and the Giants desperately needed a win or their playoff hopes were pretty much over. I heard several analysts talk about not underestimating a desperate team. With all the prior talk about dominating the Giants, I just kept thinking "On any given Sunday"....
