If you don't subscribe to The Athletic, I recommend it. You can get it annually for a good price and all the writing is top notch. The Seahawks beat writer Michael-Shawn Dugar is super good.

Our old friend Mike Sando covers the NFL and does his annual survey of NFL folks to rank every starting QB in the league. This year they ranked 35 starters or potential starters and one team had their two dudes ranked #34 and #35.

Out of 35.

I won't spoil the article by naming the team **ahem**.

This isn't some random bait-click list. Sando surveys NFL coaches, scouts and execs and let's them vote.

At least he mentioned one specific Drew Lock play(the 'read option', read very patiently by Khalid Kareem).
And, by "Lock does crazy stuff", could he mean Lock chasing Kareem, and causing a re-fumble?
Was that as crazy as Kyler Murray throwing a no look air ball from his own endzone?
And, in financial terms, Kyler gets paid 45 times more than Drew.
Where are the psychiatrists, when we need them.

Pretty serendipitous my old friend. I just finished watching the weekly Sunday Seattle Sports show on Q13 FOX tonight and they had an interview with Michael-Shawn Dugar and they were raving about his award-winning talents which made me want to look up The Athletic. I will subscribe!

Cant read the article as the site wants you to subscribe. Doubt I need to read it. I'm sure they have Wilson ranked high and Lock and Smith ranked low. Hey though, all Seattle needs is a game manager right?

They have 35 QBs ranked. Russ is #8 (second in tier 2), Lock is #34 (last in tier 4), and Geno #35 (alone in tier 5).

8 because of the injury is fair for Russ although healthy Russ is obviously higher then that. The top 8-10 could all move around depending on who stays healthy, who's been healthy and what they do this year. Russ could easily be #2 next time this year.

Lock/Geno ranking are spot on until they prove otherwise. I'm having a hard time understanding what Pete is doing. If he's willing to tank a year to get a high pick next year then I get it but he's way too old to play that game so its confusing. It's possible he wants to set up his successor the best way possible? If he thinks his system is so good and he wants to prove he doesn't need a great QB then he's a moron. I have no clue what his thinking is but nothing would surprise me with him.

I hope Lock runs away with it and capitalizes on his high level talent. I'm just skeptical it happens but its entirely possible and its a gamble that is going to cost Pete or make him look like a genius.

Before the 'subscription needed' popup window appears, press Ctl plus A key.
Then Ctl plus C key.
Then paste the text into a text editor, and read with no advertising.

As if being downgraded to tier two isn't insulting enough, they didn't name Russ as the tip of tier two, they put Stafford ahead of Wilson. Total humiliation!

In 2011, Tarvaris Jackson was ranked only above Rex Grossman before the season.

...a lot of similarities with 2011 and 2022....

Let's hope the 2023 off season mirror 2012's, we again find a young Bobby and Russell.

Russ at 8 is being generous
How do you think he does with a fresh start in Denver? I am fascinated by the whole situation because people are so split on this. It's going to be fun to watch either way

I have no idea how Russ will do in Denver. I think he's a genuinely good QB, but he does have some limitations. I'm curious if he'll actually work with Nate Hackett to improve on those or not, because he does seem to be stubborn about playing how he wants to. It was telling last season when Pete commented that he wished they'd checked it down and Russ basically said his way was better.

I thought that Sando's comments in the article about what some GMs and other team execs had to say about Russ being high maintenance were interesting and informative... like a need for his own office in the team's facility, his entourage and the need for additional hotel rooms while on the road... all stuff that wears on a team and/or its organization.

Kind of goes against the force fed narrative regarding humble saint Russ

#34 of 35: Drew Lock

#35 of 35: Geno Smith

Yes. The athletic had a group of NFL insiders rate 35 NFL QBs. The two ranked the lowest were the two who who play for the Seahawks.

Wilson was ranked #8 BTW... we will see about that.
