At 194 Seattle selects: Spencer Ware, RB LSU

The Essential Online Seahawks Fan Forum Community. There simply is NO substitute. RATING: PG-13
  • I like him. But really surprise we go with yet another Rb. Further makes me think Turbin is moving to fullback. Or maybe Ware will be a FB? He's a pretty powerful dude.

  • Who does this sound like:

    Bottom Line
Ware is a no nonsense runner that openly looks for contact. Ware can run through tacklers, and pick up yards after contact. He lacks the speed to be a game changing runner, or an every down back, but he could carve himself out a nice niche as a third-down/goal-line running back.

  • I don't see Turbin moving to fullback. Having big biceps doesn't make you a fullback. Turb is too top heavy, IMO.

He's on his way to becoming a superb third down running back. His receiving skills and speed are underacknowledged around here.

Because we only had 3 on the roster (4 if you count MRob) when the draft started.

  • Don't get it. Even if they were planning on moving Turbin to FB (unlikely) or Ware they still usually only carry 1 FB and 3 RB on the roster. Turbin is much more versatile than Ware and I can't imagine they'd cut him after using a 4th round pick on him last year. Lynch, C. Michael, and M. Robinson are locks to be on the roster and I thought Turbin was a lock as well so where's that leave Ware?

Seahawks out here drafting VIOLENT running backs. Ware=Marion Barber all over again.

I had Spencer Ware on my list - tough, tough runner, doesn't go down, physical. Lynch-lite

Strong possibility. A little smaller than Mike Rob. RT @hawkblogger: I expect we will hear that Spencer Ware will be moved to FB.

The RB Seattle just selected, Spencer Ware, played baseball early in time at LSU. Was a QB in high school.

  • Interesting (to say the least). Hard to get a feel for any single LSU RB since Myles runs by commitee. We apparently saw something in him that made him a fit. It might have been the "bowls tacklers over" thing.

I think they're probably fine with what they're getting from Mike Rob, but are open on taking on a sixth round flyer to see if he can be replaced cheaply. I don't think we should look at a sixth round pick and automatically assume this guy is a shoe in to win a competition over Robinson. Ware's got an uphill battle to make this roster, but if he has that talent, this ends up being a home run pick.

  • Mike Rob doesnt have his job on the line. As long as Marshawn is on the team so will mike rob. Let Ware sit back and learn the FB position and Christine (lol) will learn from marshawn. Turbinator will stay a backup but will still get carries. This is a great pick for the FUTURE. But... im still stuck on not having some LB depth.

  • ST, FB and pass blocking back who is a little more dynamic than M. Rob. Turbin and Washington last year had big problems pass blocking. Lynch is a good pass blocker but you don't want him gassed just for that.

  • I think Turbin is the odd man out. For all his gunz he runs too top-heavy to really beast anyone, and I find myself not caring if Turbin can catch out of the backfield since we have Harvin and Miller to be alternaties. Ware...Marshawn lite indeed. Loved the leg drive I saw out of him in those highlights and some of those smackdowns of safeties coming up trying to tackle him had me chuckling a bit.

Lots of horses back there, goodness. Perhaps the idea is you don't have to have a crazy OL with a QB that has all of RW's escapability and with RBs who can drag the pile 10 yards.

  • You guys are crazy if you think the Seahawks will just carry 4 RBs. We did it last season because there wasn't anyone worth while to be carried as the 5th.

    Seahawks can easily carry:

    Lynch/Turbin/Michael

    Robinson/Ware

Do I think Lynch/Robinson both could be gone after this season? Yes

Do I believe the Seahawks were NOT a big fan of their Goal-Line/Short Yardage Defense? I do, Michael spent last season being a Goal Line specialist and Ware is a monster in short-yardage situations.

People read into so much stuff, I think, the Seahawks want to win a Superbowl... you do that by great depth insurance and make sure you iron out your wrinkles which our Goal-Line and Short Yardage situations with our RBs in 2012 left a lot to be desired.
