  • So, WTF is that ship the villain has in this new trailer? Sure looks like an alternate version of the Enterprise...?

I'll admit I'm intrigued. Very effective decision to show that in the trailer. It looks like a fusion of a few different ships, which isn't surprising given that most Starfleet ships follow the same design ethos. Reminds me of the Enterprise-E from the alternate timeline.

Of course, I'd be more intrigued if it weren't a foregone conclusion that the mystery ship will wind up sporting the name U.S.S. Reliant. (Translation for the uninitiated: IT'S KHAN. BOOK IT.)

  • It would totally fit. Nero's ship it's destroyed and salvaged ever so conveniently close to earth and the excelsior or "great experiment" is born decades sooner than it would have been in the alternate timeline.

  • I'm leaning towards Kahn too. Watch the original Kahn trailer, and you'll hear Ricardo talk about "going into darkness". Also, there's Cryo tubes in this trailer.

It would fit, but Abrams doesn't care about whether it would fit, he just cares about recognizability and callbacks. Khan was linked to Reliant, not Excelsior.

  • Sig bet?

If it's the Reliant you win, if it's the Excelsior i win.

    If it's neither it's a push.

Loser has to keep the sig until the end of the season.

I'll think of something extra special for when i win.

  • Ewww...I remember a scene where "Kahn" says..."Vengence will be mine..." or something like that. Corny.

I read a review that really didn't give it too high of marks. While I thought the action route was the right way to go for the reboot, now I wanted a Trek film. Apparently, we still wont get one. I'll see it, because I'm a secret geek, but kinda bummed me out.

  • It's better to go into trek movies with low expectations, that way you can always come out thinking it was better than expected.

  • For Christ's sake you expect Sci-Phy movies to have warm pleasant feelings, happy endings, strong characters?

    How dumb can you get?

Go to Star Trek movies to purely be entertained. They're not into saving the worlds moderates & liberals from each other. They aren't going to worry about anything that piddling small.

Stop expecting some of these second rate actors to make another Casablanca out of that stuff.

  • Actually, I think Abrams picked some terrific actors for his Trek movies, especially Cumberbatch. I didn't like the Simon Pegg and John Cho picks (nobody's going to see those guys on screen and think anything but "Shaun of the Dead and the guy from White Castle!"), but I liked the rest.

But Les, Trek was once socially relevant, especially back in the 60's. A lot of fans still wish it was.
