Don't know anythng about him, but if he serves as nothing else than a fire under Branch's butt to get his contract signed he was worth the one year deal.

He appears to have the obligatory dreds, so that is also very important...
Everyone's gonna dread playing us.

Thanks, I'll be here all week.

McDaniel is 6'7" (!), 305. Also, he once did this:

[In] January 2005 McDaniel assaulted fellow University of Tennessee student, Edward Goodrich, during a pick-up basketball game for which Goodrich received 4 broken bones and needed a metal plate inserted into his face to repair injuries.

Almost sounds like Tom Cable wanted him as his next DT/OL convert project. :) Ultra tall? Check. Relatively lightweight? Check. Dirtbag? Yup.

With that height it almost makes you think he's depth/insurance for Red and not necessarily a Branch replacement.

Alan Branch is 6-6.

Are we being presumptuous in plugging him into Branch's spot? He looks more like a guy to spell Red with upgraded pass rush.

I like this. It seems like a good solid roster move to add some depth at a lean position as well as giving yourself some flexibility.

Both very good things to do. Especially when you consider that the 'flexibility' extends to on-field play and formations, as well as future roster moves-draft picks and trades and such.
