Then who would you sign as our backup QB?

I know that people will HATE this idea, but I am all for signing Vince Young for peanuts.

Brilliant! You should start your own thread with that topic. I have a feeling it would be a real hit.

I prefer not to post everything that pops into my head, as I am just self-aware enough to think that most of it is silly. This, apparently, has been discussed and deemed silly at some earlier point on this board.

I approach VY as a signing for peanuts that might work out or might not, like the Lendale White, Mike Williams, and Terrell Owens signings. He has the tools to run the read-option and to play in the pistol, and a stripped down offense could work for him.

I don't know how many mobile QBs are out there right now that can back up Wilson and not shake up the offense too much. I would like to kick the tires on Young, even if it doesn't work out.

Buddy Nix talked quite openly about moving up for a QB this year and being aggressive. I suspect they'll move up to guarantee Geno Smith in the draft.

  • Not trying to turn this into a TJack thread. Trading a 7th round compensatory pick for TJack is a bad trade. That's giving up too much value for a below average return. I'm astonished at the love TJack gets here. After 8 years in the league he still has difficulty reading defenses. It's been proven that he's been surpassed by many rookies who have better football IQ, poise, awareness, calmness, and ability that TJack. I believe that TJack is a great guy off the field. He's a liability on it. That ship has sailed through Seattle already and I hope it doesn't return anytime soon.

Now back to the topic, it would be harsh if Seahawks traded Flynn to Buffalo. Considering he was one of the factors in TJack's release from Seattle in the first place. Raiders, Cleveland, Jets and Jax are the front-runners for possible trade destinations (IMO).

Kind of surprised that Flynn wasn't part of the Harvin trade package.

Teams that that need a Qb and that would trade for Flynn.. Bill's, Jets just signed Garrard , KC got Alex Smith, well not going to Cards certainly, Bears ? or Chargers ? Saints need a another QB.

Speculation I've heard is that the new Bills coach will want his college QB, Nassib.

Jacksonville already has a 1st rounder and Henne battling for the starting spot, and there's no evidence that Flynn's a significant enough upgrade over both of those guys to justify taking on his contract as that team rebuilds.

Cleveland is in the same boat as Jax. I don't see them giving up on Weeden after 1 year - especially when he's a much cheaper option than Flynn.

Oakland actually seems like a prime landing spot for Flynn, given that their GM was with the Packers FO when Flynn was drafted, and he'd certainly be less expensive than Palmer.

What to do with Flynn?
Wed Mar 13, 2013 7:18 pm
  • I have read here over the last few days that a number of people want the Hawks to trade Flynn. I understand trying to free up cap space but let's not overlook our high powered O is led by a QB that can and does run. I am aware he does not seem to take the big hits however we are one bad break (as all teams are) from having to utilize the backup QB. With this said I would rather keep an expensive backup than cheap out. Unless a good backup comes available and is willing to accept backup pay I would rather play it safe especially with all we have invested. If this is our best shot at making a real SB run we need to be fully covered at the most important position on e field. No guarantee that Flynn is amazing but he is probably better than most as a backup.

  • Well this has been discussed :)

    But time to go again?

We differ in opinion but I say trade and sign a backup that fits like Vince Young or anyone not name Tebow.

I am ok with the money spent in the qb position but Flynn isn't a natural fit in our system now.

Cutting Flynn doesn't save enough. Has to be a trade in my book even if a 7th rounder :)

How high of a swap would be worth it? I'd also be a fan of Flynn for Pryor straight up as mentioned prior.... hah. Anyways... your thoughts?

  • I want a third or higher.

Rapoport just tweeted that New England won't trade Ryan Mallet unless it's for a first or maybe a second. Ryan freakin' Mallet. Even if no team will ever bite on New England's crazy demands, shows the value a good organization places on a capable back-up QB. Also, Hasselbeck is going to make $5 million next year to hold a clipboard for Luck, so don't give me the money argument.

I'd take that. We'd almost be getting our original first round pick back. Plus Jacksonville has the #1 pick in the second round, if I remember right. That gives us all the time in the world to consider who's left. That's a pretty good deal for our first pick of the draft.
