Plenty will probably not even come close to agreeing with me, but I think my favorite cover of any song by any artist, ever, is Marilyn Manson's Tainted Love. He does an amazing job with it. Weird music video for it, though.

I liked him in the old days, Sweet Dreams was cool and Your so Vain which was recently used on a West Memphis trio tribute album was pretty good....Johnny Depp on bass if I recall.

His new stuff is not so good :(

Was at the Gorge for Warped Tour in... 2007 I think it was and a band called Evergreen Terrace did a cover of Mad World by Gary Jules. Pretty fun and badass to see live.

My mother raised me on 80's music, so I get a kick out of this metal cover of an 80's classic:

Humorous cover:

I love this cover of Four WInds, IMO way better than the Bright Eyes original:

How about a not so good metal cover? Here is as one commenter put it, REM if Cookie Monster was the backup singer:

Can't link because I'm using my phone, but Cash's "One" made it real for me. With Bono's vocals I found it lyrically intriguing but hollow. Cash made it sound so personal.

Frente's cover of "Bizarre Love Triangle" by Nee Order is probably rightfully derided as fluff but it opened my very non-musically orientated ears to how much a cover could differ from the original and really woke me up to a side of music I'd not thought about.

Smokin, Black Magic woman was written by Peter Green, one of the founding members of Fleetwood Mac. Hardly 'someone else entirely'...

Faith No More also does a kick ass version of War Pigs. The best I've heard since the original. Cranked up to 11 on a finely tuned sound system
is bliss.

The American Beauty Project does an outstanding job of covering the Grateful Dead. I caught them when they breezed through Seattle

"Please don't dominate the rap Jack, if you've got nothin' new to say." Those words flow through my brain every time I open a new .net thread. Ha!

*EDIT* Crap, I can't get it to embed.

Well, just search Catherine Russell and New Speedway Boogie or just American Beauty Project.
