Funny. I was talking about Jaco in the Oscar Pastorious thread yesterday. What a co-inky-dink.

  • Very nice, Zeb. Can't beat a bit of Mike Oldfield. Tubular Bells isn't even close to his best work.

I'm going to keep pushing Frank Zappa in this thread. Most people really have no idea about him, but he was one of, if not THE finest musical mind in the modern era. If you've never heard any of his guitar work, the gentlemen, i invite you to feast your ears:

In all honesty, I want this song played at my funeral. Amazing.

  • very cool stuff, I am with you on Zappa he was so far ahead of his time, his style was so awkward and when I would play his stuff to guitar players it was funny, they would get the lemon face and say "he can't do that" :D He broke rules and pushed boundries and thats what alot of todays musicians are afraid to do !

Anyways not a technical song but beautiful none the less

  • The only "lyrics" are a sample from a speech given by a former Marine about killing innocent civilians in Iraq, I can't find his name though. Great song nevertheless. Includes guitar solos by Alex Skolnick of Testament (2nd guitar solo) and Chris Poland, formerly of Megadeth (3rd guitar solo).

  • Some great stuff posted here, as usual some I like some I hate.

I always preferred perfection of a performer and have loved this Tony Mottola tune since first seeing perform while I was in the Bay Area in the Coast Guard.

And tho I'm not a big country music fan I think Chet Atkins on various titles is among the best of guitar players ever. And if you've never seen Roy Clark play Maleguena on the stage all by himself you've missed one of the great guitar players.

This is one of the best versions of 12th Street Rag I've ever seen. And he can clown while he's playing such a difficult piece.
