Lane made him expendable in that role.

How are we going to replace his veteran leadership?

He's been around the bubble for the last few years but he was definitely one of the guys that had the right attitude and helped raise the play of everyone else. He was going to make more than 2 million, as a 4th/5th/6th receiver, that is probably too much and had to be part of freeing up more money for other moves, either re-signing our current talent or signing our draft picks.

Got to say Jeremy Lane made him expendable there too. He may not be able to hit guys very hard (remember when he bounced off the returner?) but damn that guy is fast

He was a good special teams player and helped span the bridge with BMW until the current crop of WRs took off. He was a survivor, sort of like Leroy Hill.

Pays for half of Bennet's salary for a guy that probably wouldn't have seen the field this year....... seems like a good deal to me

Lane is fast, but definately doesn't finish quite like Obo did. Obo has some solid hits on return guys on his resume. Lane.....well, he's still learning what to do when he gets down there and probably best described as "getting in the return guys way".

Definately a money thing, here. $2mm more in cap space just may be what is needed to bring Branch back.

This. Obo was a special teams stalwart, and he provided depth for us at ALL WR spots. He wasn't the greatest talent we had at WR, but he was the most versatile.

Very happy to see a fellow Auburn alum parlay a 7th round draft position into a 7 year career with my Hawks. Best of luck to him in his next location (unless it's against us).

I am SO going to miss hearing people butcher his name.

He'll be back by pre-season

A good guy who worked hard and got the absolute most out of the talent he was born with, but there's just no way we can pay someone who at best would be our fifth WR nearly $2.5 million. I got to meet his family at Indy a few years back; good people.

How bizarre is this? Ben was #87...he has 87 receptions...and his career long is 87 yards.
