I have never seen why Wilson chose #3. At Wisconsin he wore #16. Often, athletes have specific reasons or superstitions for the # they wear. Was it because of the round he was chosen? Anyone know?

I could be wrong but I assume it has to do with the bible verse John 3:16

Here's Why.

- People said he was 3 inches to short to play QB in the NFL.
- He was Drafted in the 3rd rd.
- He will win 3 Super Bowls in his career.

and those are my 3 reasons Russell Wilson chose the number 3...

He's from Virginia; where Iverson is a legend. Like Iverson, he is the undersized underdog with huge heart dominating against giants.

Or at least thats what I like to think, as Iverson is my all time fave.

After the draft he was interviewed and said he choose three because he always wanted to be reminded what round he was drafted in.

Shame that A.I. can't get a shot in the NBA, be nice if he got a contract with a team like the Heat.

Too much pride (hardheaded) to realize that he should really be only a complimentary piece at this point, no matter how badly he needs money. Sad to see too, in his prime I don't think I enjoyed a pro athlete more.

His dad taught him the 3 Ps... perseverance, perspective, and purpose.

Dude is super religious. It's John 3:16. 16 in college, 3 in the pros. Pretty simple.

He wanted his number to match the time he shows up to the VMAC to start watching film each morning.

Why 3?

Because when you naturally hold up three fingers in the "USA style" (pointer, middle and ring) , it makes a "W" for Wilson and for Win.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if it has something to do with the round he was drafted. Like a constant reminder to keep proving people wrong.

There are a lot of explanations and we have no idea which one was right. Mine is the Joe Montana angle. Wilson idolized Joe Montana growing up and is on record saying that he wore #16 in college in tribute to the #16 that Montana wore in the pros. When Wilson became a Seahawk, #16 was unavailable because it was owned by Kris Durham. Joe Montana himself had to change numbers when going to the pros. He wore #3 at Notre Dame before switching to #16 for the 49ers. Montana himself was a 3rd round pick.

With John Schneider serving the role of John the Baptist. I hope he keeps his head longer.
