Seahawks sign 6-7,280-pound TE who played hoops in Argentina

The Essential Online Seattle Football Fan Forum Community. There simply is NO substitute. LANGUAGE RATING: PG-13

  • Interesting part is that it's a 3 years long deal. They must have really saw something in him

  • Wow, at that height, I wonder if he can block in line? Worst case, I guess he can set a screen in the pick and roll game that we will be implementing.

    3 yr deal??? intriguing.

  • Got the following information from Twitter:

Darren Fells was an all-state TE in HS at Fullerton in SoCal, you can be sure Pete Carroll is very familiar with his athletic history. Fells turns 27 in April, is 6-7 255lbs, former Power Forward in Europe, was born in the USA.

  • It is interesting, but the length of contract is fairly meaningless, since it's unlikely to contain guarantees over that time frame. Just means he's locked into us until we decide otherwise :).

Not complaining though, I'll take any actual Seahawks news this time of the year that isn't bad news

    Player Profile

A rugged competitor and a talented scorer. Superb low post moves and can score from wing or low-post. He does possess 3-pt range and is a strong rebounder. A very skilled big man he is quite fundamentally sound in all areas. Good mechanics on his shot allow him to shoot with range and also provide solid numbers at the free throw line. Crashed the offensive boards hard and also is an excellent weak side shot blocker. He also has worked hard and is now a solid ball handler and can move out and play some minutes on the perimeter. Defends both the PF and C spots effectively. Great physical body let's him bang around in the low blocks while still being quick enough to blow by most post players.

he had football offers to play tight end at Arizona and Wyoming. Article Link

  • former basketball players like gates and graham had at least one year of college football (I think).

The reason why we signed him for 3 years is because we wanted to teach him how to play football/be a tight end for the first part of the contract.

  • Just another amazing example how PC/JS find talent that so many others dont because the others are locked into their dogma.

I bet he turns into a great TE.

In BBall he has to find seperation and have good hands.

This FO is amazing at finding the talent in the world that is going to make them great for years and years.

Yes I know I am ahead of myself and he may be a bust but I have a sneaking suspision that we will look back on this day in a year from now and smile.

  • Look it is simply to understand what happened. Every pre-season camp they play an internal basketball tournament with bragging rights to the winner. So Schneider gets to pick first and decided to stack the deck a little bit........

Gates never played college football, which is crazy considering his success in the league.

Hey, that's no joke. Look at Drew Brees. He had Gates in SD and then Graham in NO. Coincidence? I think not. Leave no rock unturned. I wish I could get more info on his workout today. It must have been very impressive. GoHawks!!! :th2thumbs:

  • As a half Argentinean, I can't tell you how hyped I got when I saw the title of this thread? Gotta say, I'm a little let down to see that it's some dude named Fells and not some future bust/trout out/stiff named Lopez Hernandez.

I'm sure this guy will be a beast, but zany, likeable, bound to be nothing special, foreigner is one area this team is still sorely lacking in.
