Unbelievable..........Washington State legalizes recreational use of marijuana!

Soooooooooooooo, jealous.

Alright, I will admit, sometimes once in a blue moon, when the stars align right, when the tide is right, the cocktail is mixed with precision, and when lightening strikes at the same place twice, YOU LIBERALS GET SOMETHING RIGHT!

Smoke a fatty for me without pretending it is medical use, or for medical use, and/or because you just wanted to feel high!

It's about FACKING TIME!!!!!!!!! LEGALIZE IT!

I am from Texas and i also wish weed was legal, not just so i can get high day but to free all the prisoners who got locked up for marijuana possession. The amount of tax dollars that could be saved.......
Also with it legalized, the amount of deaths related to weed should slow down just like when alcohol was legalized again.

Only time will tell if the "Holy Grail" of legalization will bear the fruit the legislators believe it will.

Why would an operation that isn't regulated, doesn't pay taxes, and can sell to anyone want to open their books to the government, grant unfettered regulation on their operation, and restrict sales?

Easy. Legal protection.

When illegal, any drug seller that starts to make a substantial profit risks getting taken down by both the gov't and the cartels, who aren't real fond of competition and will fight it with extreme prejudice. If legal the gov't will at least be indifferent to one's case, if not supportive and perhaps protective.

I still don't see that small Mom and Pop grower in operation illegally today jumping into the legal relam. Permit costs, regulation, taxes, etc. Just don't see them climbing on board. What is the incentitive for them to do it legally since they are already assuming the risk now?

Then, why would I pay $10 for a legal blunt when I could buy it from my current dealer for $5? Again, what is the incentitive for them to do it legally since they are already assuming the risk now?

Civic responsibility? LOL

58Rocker: It's fairly obvious you know shit about pot or growing pot.

If growing is legal, then a grower doesn't have to worry much about concealment or detection. You can grow your plants as large as possible!

I don't know many folks who buy pot by "the blunt," but wouldn't you rather sell 1,000 'blunts' @ $5. apiece, than 100 'blunts' @ $10 a piece? It's a simple business equation.

And who the fuck calls a joint "a blunt"? (Besides you and some Atlanta cops.)

Blunts are very popular around here, Seattle at least. Lymon, Blunts are weed wrapped in cigar wrappers. Swisher Sweets and Garcia Vega are popular wraps (you take the tobacco out first, then re-roll the wrap with ganja). That said, a $5 blunt would be a small one. Or a VERY generous dealer.

Case: You're missing my point.

If a grower was allowed to openly grow pot, s/he could grow much larger plants without much more effort. Thus they would be able to sell at a lower cost.

MJ is a weed and it can be manipulated fairly easy. IMHO, if allowed to grow freely, you would be hearing of 5 lb plants! It can done.

On the 'blunt' thing: I'll chalk that up to generation differences. Your's is the first time I've seen that explanation for a blunt. Too me, it was a Jamaican term for a joint/spliff. Live and learn. :D

Marijuana plants can grow to over 20 feet tall in the wild, so I'm sure if left free they could get quite a lot (although when to harvest would likely curb how tall it is allowed to grow).

The quality would likely be pretty terrible on a 5lb plant. The low yields are usually done for quality control purposes, not hiding a grow operation from prying eyes. If there were a good reason to harvest 5lb from a single plant, someone would be doing it right now.

Also, the origin of the blunt does in fact come from Jamaica. The rastas not so blessed with fresh greens would take leftover stems and seeds (yes, stems and seeds), rolling them in tobacco leaves or cigar paper, such that the awful flavor of burning hemp seed is disguised.

Why would the quality be different? Please explain why low yield means higher quality?

I was an outdoor grower in the 1980s. The best season we had we averaged close to 10oz a plant...and the quality was killer! I've never grown under lights, but can't imagine why there'd be a difference. YMMV.

Part of the art of growing high caliber pot has to do with what you feed your plants, how you treat your plants, and when to harvest your plants. As we used to say, "You wait for the weight!"

Toke on!

Growing outdoors tends to result in heavier plants due to the longer vegetative cycle. Indoor harvests tend to be smaller on a per-plant basis due to the emphasis placed upon flowering over vegetative growth. It's not uncommon for an indoor grower to begin flowering the plant after just two to three weeks of vegetation. The benefit of it comes from directing the plant's photosynthetic efforts towards producing the good stuff, rather than leaves and lumber. The flowering cycle will be about the same length of time whether you are growing a 1oz plant or a 5oz plant, provided that genetics are the same. The quality difference comes from the fact that a heavier plant will not necessarily consume nutrients at rate proportionate to its increased size.

This is also true of other agricultural products. Take apples, for example. An apple farmer must thin the crop during the late spring months or the overall quality of their apples will suffer. For every cluster of young apples, a few must be knocked off early in the season so that growth is directed towards the remainder. The same reasoning is applied to pruning apple trees -- remove the unnecessary vegetation so that growth is directed towards the crop.

I'm not a farmer, but I believe this is true of most crops which grow above ground.

You are correct; you are not a farmer.

There is so much wrong with your hypothesis I will not take the time to explain it.
