I do find it funny how people are stuffing their canvas bags with a bunch of shit packaged in plastic.

Well then help me to understand the point that I'm supposed to respond to because I think you've lost me.

My response doesn't necessarily require one. *shrug*
My point was just that being a straw man argument does not automatically invalidate the argument presented. It does a lot of times, but not always. One can still have a valid straw man argument.

I want to eat a race horse some day.
When it comes to food, I am a predator. I want meat, I want to eat other living things after they have been prepared into a tasty meal.
I've had a beefalo burger, half beef/buffalo, but I have yet to have buffalo by itself.
Anyways, I agree with Sailor. Misleading information about what you are eating is wrong, but there is nothing wrong with eating horses, or cats and dogs for that matter. If I ever visit China I will definitely eat some cat and dog before I come home and won't miss out on that opportunity.

We've all eaten pig lips and anus in our hotdogs, unless there's some Kosher members in here of course, and crushed animal bones in our JELLO. A good cut of of horse meat has to be better than that. I eat buffalo burgers and they are mighty tasty.
I'm with Sailor on this, just because we form emotional bonds with dogs, cats and horses doesn't seem like a very good reason for banning them as a food source. I'm not really pro-dog/cat eating, but the legal standard comes off as arbitrary.
On a side not, in some primitive way I do think that when people appreciated the life that was sacrificed for their food in days past, usually through prayer, that it was, in some mystical way, more, I don't know, acceptable? The mega-slaughter houses we have now that just spit out animal products, when thought about, seems very unseemly from an ethical standpoint. This is a whole 'nother topic though.

Mislabelling and lying to us aside, there are 3 problems with eating horse. First, horses are companion animals or utilitarian animals that do us a solid whilst they are alive, so we do them the courtesy of not eating them when they die. Secondly, horses are given certain medications which are not meant to go into the food chain. But most importantly, the main consumers of horse meat in Europe are the French, so eating horse means you are acting like the French, which is absolutely disgusting. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to throw up my dinner.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to throw up my dinner. The problem with this argument is that while horses are utilitarian or companion animals, so are a lot of other animals we devour with relish. Medications aren't a big issue when considering that if raised for meat like other animals, they wouldn't be given any medications which are not meant to go into the food chain. And the main consumers of horse meat in Europe are not the French, but the Italians. I can see a stigma on horse, in light of the hole Black Beauty/Sea Biscuit thing, but to make it illegal? What other meat besides endangered species is actually illegal?

I had a chance to try Iguana soup while TDY in the Netherland Antilles, but the other guys with me were too scared to enter the restaurant and try it.

MLO, I've had buffalo both burgers and steaks. Its not bad at all, very much like beef but not near as fatty making it harder to get it tender like beef steak. When I was drag racing and traveling a lot we used to stop near the original Silver Dollar & Grille at a drive in burger place long gone to get buffalo burgers and it was worth the stop. But that's been back in the 60s before most of our posters were born. lol I know people that have eaten horse and have always been told and read about that it is a sweeter meat than beef. But the indians and pioneers ate it and must have survived as we are here. I'm not sure what the term "sweeter" means in regard to horsemeat. I keep waiting for the news to come over here that we have been getting some in our beef too. I know for a fact that a huge percentage of our beef in the US is from Australia. The military has been selling Aussie beef for many years. And there are many major chains that sell their beef. I've always wanted to try Argentine beef but never seen it and probably couldn't now afford it. lol

Bro fist, Zeb. Alligator's actually pretty regular-tasting. I mean that in a good way, you can deep-fry it and call it chicken and most people wouldn't have a clue. I wonder if horse is the same way?
