Still, the question remains: why is horse meat not just shunned, or disdained in America, but rather ILLEGAL? What about horse meat is so terrible, so vile that it could be deemed forbidden under penalty of law?

I wouldn't mind eating horse, especially if it's a horse I've lost money on at the track. We pretty much eat any animal here, kangaroo, emu, crocodile...

What about horse meat is so terrible, so vile that it could be deemed forbidden under penalty of law? Because of how horses have been portrayed in the movies. Westerns with outlaws & their best friend, their horse; stuff like My Friend Flicka, etc. Before you laugh and think I'm kidding, think it through. Horses have been sentimentalized into the household pets category that cats and dogs are in, in the American culture. JesterHawk wrote: Roland ain't picking up what you're laying down, but I got it. Gee, yeah, that totally went over my head, Jester.

Any horse I've ever eaten was disguised as beef, but I'm sure it was in there. And it was gooooood.

I feel the exact same way about Dolphins, Sailor. I keep imagining Dolphin is delicious, but I can't buy it anywhere.
I would pay good money for a can of Tuna safe Dolphin.

I would pay good money for a can of Tuna safe Dolphin. Dolphins seem like they'd be blubbery. Maybe not so good for eating but probably great for making lamp oil.

American beef is banned in Europe due to the hormones we add. I'd probably eat horse over American beef.

Like in this case, probably.

I could easily argue there is no reason that doesn't involve a considerable amount of stupidity for banning plastic bags, sure. @Zeb: You can't just say hormones are bad. Guess what? Every person on the planet is filled with hormones. I guess they're all bad, too.
