Seahawks | Likely will look to add athletic QB
Thu, 14 Feb 2013 11:16:11 -0800

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll would like the team to add an athletic quarterback that has a similar skill set to QB Rusell Wilson this offseason.

Seahawks | Will listen to offers for Matt Flynn
Thu, 14 Feb 2013 11:10:55 -0800

The Seattle Seahawks do not have to trade QB Matt Flynn this offseason but general manager John Schneider will listen to offer for him.

I think Flynn will be needed else where and is good as gone!

I think most of us expect to sign Tavaris in the wake on a Flynn trade. or I am the only one?

But its not like the position matters lol

The big question is who has the same skill set as Wilson? And at what price? Maybe the draft again.

You probably aren't the only one, but Let's just not retread the T-Jack stuff. Better he just stay gone.

As for the OP, of course we are getting a qb this offseason. No team in it's right mind goes through the offseason with 2 quarterbacks. We will likely bring in 2 qb's just cuz

I think the success of all these young QB's is going to hurt Flynn's trade value this year, what with college QB's coming out ready to start from day #1. No longer is the norm to draft and develop and go sign another team's backup while that happens.

The trend is now to go out and find your own young dynamic QB. This way you don't have to give up draft picks for guys like Smith and Flynn, you don't have to absorb their contracts either.

TJ is under contract iirc and i dont think this FO is gana trade for him again. i would rather draft a 6/7th rounder but i wouldnt complain if TJ ended up on the team again. he already knows our WRs (sorta)

One really amazing aspect with respect to how Schneider has handled the QB position (in light of Ruskell's negligence and his personal miss on Whitehurst) is that not only did he find a franchise QB, he put together enough of a pipeline to get a draft pick out of Jackson and perhaps another out of Flynn...in 2-3 offseasons of work. Not even GB got to cash on Flynn draft pick wise.

Regardless of how we feel about it...I too am sensing a very realistic possibility of a Seahawks - TJack reunion.

Keep in mind that being able to drop back and throw the ball accurately is also part of Wilson's skill set. He has become a throwing QB that can use his legs, not a runner that can be forced to throw by a good D.

Please put the crack pipe down, JK.

Been there done that.

I would rather trust an unknown vs. Mr. make the wrong decision at the worst time TJ.

I always thought TJack's running ability was overrated. The indecision of when to run is on par with his indecision throwing the ball. 10 years ago Seneca would be ideal.

Dixon, maybe?

If Tjack had any value other then that year we needed any goat/warm body to get us through the year, I think the FO would have tucked him away at the 3rd string spot.

We are moving on, expect a young Wilson type, IMHO

Dixon just signed a 2 year deal with the Eagles.

I don't understand the TJack talk, just because he played here in the past doesn't mean he's what we're limited to. Pretend guys that leave have never played here and look at it that way.

I would welcome T-jack back. Hell, who better to take over a series or God forbid a game or two. He has an arm, he has legs he just doesn't have the ability to extend the plays like RW does. Look at the O-line we put him out there with, jeezus. I think with our improved O-line play it just may work out. T-jack is one tough SOB. Just my opinion.

Except unlike last year, this years crop is crap. The reason Flynn only had 2 teams approach him last year was because of last years draft class. This year, not so good. I foresee at least 5 teams in the market for a free agent QB.

Good for Dixon. I'm eager to see how that offense works in the NFL. I hope Vick's the last "high-priced" guy Chip's offense ever sees, I want to see FULL spread with little regard for injured QB's. Sign 3 Dixon types, and go for it.

Well, I'm nuts, but I still want Young brought in for a tryout. The culture and program's to the point he wont do damage, and may flourish, ya never know. I'd prefer whomever it is to AT LEAST have been in the NFL as a backup...pick up a late-round toy...but have one vet too.

Chase Daniel or Tebow are guys I'd also consider.

Draft for need in the first two rounds, then a QB in the 3rd. It worked last year.

Dear draft gurus, who has the same skill set as RW in this years draft?

True, one of the weakest QB classes ever. But that doesn't mean a lot of NFL execs won't think they can draft a QB over trading for an unproven backup making 5-6 million like Flynn.

My point is 2-3 years ago I think we could have got a #2 or #3 round pick for Flynn. Now? Probably more in the 4th or 5th round pick range.

With all the recent talk about how this is a weak QB class, I'll be surprised if we don't trade Flynn somewhere. Honestly, I'd like to see him go start on a team with a decent team around him. I think he could be a pretty good QB, he just needs his shot.

These reports aren't completely new. i think Pete and John's said all this at their end of the season press conferences and/or interviews. Worth bringing up, though. I think the Seahawks would love to move Flynn's contract for some picks and find a backup similar to Wilson, but that's easier said then done. I haven't completely shut the door on Flynn, yet, though I'd like to see him traded.

BINGO, Tebow would be the answer! But at what price? Tim's skill set is the same as Wilson!

Who was the unquestioned leader of not only the offense but the team when TJ was QB? Yeah, another skill set that he doesn't possess.

Flip a comp 7th for Tebow and it'd be fine for each side, I'd imagine.

Tebow can only REALLY throw in improv/readnreact type offenses. He'd still be inaccurate, but not as much in a scenario where he mimicked Wilson's time.

I agree as long as we exclude accuracy, grasp of offensive schemes and how to read NFL defenses.

Personally I do not want the Tim Tebow circus in Seattle. I'd rather just draft another young QB in the Wilson mold, or get a veteran like T-Jack.

Writing, meet wall. That definitely sounds to me like bye bye, Mr. Flynn.

And I was THIS close to buying a Flynn jersey right after the new uniforms came out!

Hmm, T-bow... T-Jack? Get um both signed after we trade Flynn to the highest bidder. Just playing around here- but could you see RW in the shotgun with Tebow in the backfield or vise verse?

Info from ESPN.com Tebow completed 75% of his passes in 2012...If the jets were not flat out retarded, they would have played him more.

That 75% makes him one of the most accurate QBs in the NFL last year by about 7%...He is one solution to the problem

i rather see teebow here than TJ... and preferably neither...

if memory serves me correctly only thing i remember about TJ is that he held the ball too long and took way too many sacks... other than a strong arm, i don't see any similarities with him and RW...

Not sure if sarcasm..I'm actually for the possibility of adding Tebow, but I'd never try to say he's an accurate passer. Didn't he go just 6-8 in 2012? Come on man, you can't use those numbers. Heck at least one of those completions was a 3 yard pass against us!

I said it elsewhere and I guess I will say it here. Vince Young is a much better fit. The guy can throw the ball, has won in the NFL and can run the ball. I personally think it helps that he got millions and is now BROKE. That should motivate him to stay on best behavior and be valuable to the team

Tebow - never ever ever please. He is a great person let him go and be a great person somewhere else

I'm assuming this is tongue-in-cheek? :?

He completed all of 6 passes last year (out of 8 attempts), for a total of 39 yards. That's less than 5 ypa, which means he basically just threw dump offs.

So that fancy looking 75% means jack sh*t.

Good grief. All this Jackson talk is mind blowing. Yes he has a strong arm and yes he has guts but if you don't know where and when to throw the damn ball that does you no good. As for as his legs go didn't he get hurt trying scramble out of the pocket? If he was all that great wouldn't he be starting somewhere. The Jackson lovers make out like he did great here. Seems like they have forgotten about all the drives he killed and why the defense was on the field so much of the time. He needs to stay gone.

Do you want to lie and make up numbers or go off what really happened? He did what he was asked and that happened to be more then any other QB, so Yes I will use the true information.

Who is more proven in the NFL, Mr comeback kid Tebow, or 4 games Flynn? Flynn did pretty good with his contract.

PC said he wants a Wilson Jr. and Tebow is pretty close.

Need more short guys! Go get Kellen Moore!

JK, but what about this Zach Collaros guy? IIRC there were a couple draftnicks that were kinda high on him. Never watched him play myself, but reading the write ups on him from last year's draft he definately sounds like he fits the Russell Wilson mould...

He's currently in the mix to back up Ricky Ray for the Toronto Argonaughts. There's a couple of young NFL castoffs serving as back ups in the CFL right now who could fit the bill, but this Zach dude sounds like a fit.

That post was mostly a joke, but that idea has worked in the past for us:)
I think Wilson was just to good of a value to pass up in the 3rd round and PC/JS thankfully pulled the trigger.

I see a PC / Matt Barkley reunion ahead. Can't belive this has not been discussed here already. If so, guess I missed it.
Think about it, trade Flynn get more draft picks, save his cap hit. And get Barkley on a dime.

If Flynn departs I wouldn't be surprised to see us bring in any old veteran backup available while taking a long hard look at Josh Portis and what he can do, especially if Flynn departs early because I wouldn't put it past a guy like Russell Wilson to then look to the next man up in Portis and really work with him to groom him into his backup.

Don't be shocked if it's something out of left field.

I could see the seahawks signing say, Rex Grossman and letting him and Portis duke it out for the 2nd string QB spot, while also possibly drafting a rookie.

I'm not saying I want Grossman i'm just saying I wouldn't be shocked if that's the kind of guy we bring in. And lets not forget last time we saw Grossman, it was in Seattle, beating Tjack who seems incapable of playing football in the 4th quarter.

A late 2nd for Matt would be a fun/solid pick imho. I am not sure he will make it to the late 2nd round, and we have other needs for the 1st round.

Also lets take a moment to count our blessings, I stopped by a Cardinal's forum today and one of their hot topics was "Drew Stanton as starting QB?"

ouch.

reminds me of the people chanting CHarlie! Charlie!

I'm waiting for us to sign Dark Tebow - the man Tim Tebow will become when he realizes the world has forsaken him and his goodness and he just says to hell with it.

Dark Tebow to Seattle.

Hating is for 3rd grade girls, lets be above that. The dude does everything he has been asked. Work the pure hate on a different thread and your keen NFL knowledge on this one...thank you.

T-Jack would be a pretty fine backup QB. Not a great starter but for what Seneca was making ($2-$4 mil/year) he would absolutely be worth it.

soooo..cut loose your better than average backup and the best return man in the nFC and replace him with a guy who is too inaccurate to be a QB, can't play receiver, and just have him be your 3rd down back/kick returner and hope that he figures those things out better than he did in the sr. bowl?

Something tells me that's a terrible idea.
