i have to disagree Lymon.. i was a cop in the airforce, there is no reason you cannot be civil to someone being civil to you.. only when a person wants to act like a jerk, then hospitality's out of the window.. i knew too many guys that power tripped soon as they put on the badge and gun.. they're are just assholes in all walks of life, unfortunately some wear badges too..knew a guy in my division who would pull people over for ticky tack crap at night, because he loved seeing the lights reflect off the buildings, true story i swear... just a complete jerk... there were good guys too.
our oath was too protect and serve base occupants and civilians.. not harrass, profile, physically abuse, belittle them, or kick back and watch them get attacked by a serial killer....
it's because of the many negative encounters i had as a military police officer with other cops, i never continued my career after i got out...

I was a military policeman, not an SP, i didn't guard aircraft or equipment. we called them rivet counters,LOL.. i actually patroled in a car, or earlier in my career pulled gate guard duty.. stationed at Mather AFB in Sacremento.. this was in the late 80's..

After three pages, you now say you were a cop? LOL! Well, I guess you were part of the problem...no?
Are there asshole cops? For fucking sure; and I've met more than one. Are there nice-guy cops, yup, we got those too.
The point I was trying to make is that a cop's first obligation is not to make you comfortable, or treat you like your momma. They have a tough job to do and wise asses don't make it easier.
If a cop pulls me over, I'm all yes sir, no sir. I try not to argue with folks who carry guns and clubs for a living.

that's certainly you're right.. i'm a little confused on the , i'm part of the problem part of your post..
i've already stated there are good cops and bad cops, how you choose to interact with them is your choice..
i agree with what you're saying, i'm saying some take it to another level and it's not right.

They never would allow him to get out alive. He could toss his hands up, get on the ground, and put his hands behind his back, and he still wouldn't make it out.

i think he was either injured during the gunfight and died of the wounds, or soon as they torched the place he knew it was over and off'd himself..
either way i think it's obvious this guy's plans fell apart early in the game.. unsuccessfully tried to steal a boat, gets recognized.. drives up to big bear breaks his axel, then sets his truck on fire.. why would you do that? so now you're stuck up there , only option is to find refuge in one of the cabins... you've drawn every law enforcement officer to your location, no way off the mountain.. later steal another car in an attempt to get off the mountain, like they don't have all the roads blocked, get spotted again, back to an abandoned cabin.. so now you're pinned down, nothing left to do but go out in a blaze of bullets..
sad, dumb, tragic, senseless!!!!!!

Not so senseless if you know what it's like to be a cop in prison. I know going out his way would beat that. (Not that he was ever gonna have any chance to come out of this alive, cuz y'all know he didn't!)

agreed.. but i was stating this whole incident was senseless.. not just the end... killing an innocent engaged couple, just because her father supposedly slighted him earlier... the whole story is tragic and senseless.. unfortunately this happens to often in today's world.. on another note, according to youtube video, cops purposely set the cabin on fire.. officer in charge at the scene on record stating.. let it burn? how do you feel about the cops using this tactic? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sisVskoh ... r_embedded
