  • Yeah, unfortunately the Niners and Cards have easier-away/harder-home schedules while the Hawks and Rams have the opposite.

@Houston is the only game I see giving the Seahawks fits.

Everything else I personally, am not worried about.

To be fair we had an probably had an easier home/away set up this year than SF. Specifically we got New England and Green Bay at home, they pulled road games for each.

  • That is odd. Based on regular-season records, and ignoring the common NFCW opponents we all play:

    SF/Home: 13-3 + 7-9 + 11-5 + 12-4 + 11-5 = 54-26 = 0.675
    SF/Away: 7-9 + 7-9 + 10-6 + 2-14 + 6-10 = 32-48 = 0.400

    SEA/Home: 7-9 + 7-9 + 10-6 + 2-14 + 6-10 = 32-48 = 0.400
    SEA/Away: 13-3 + 7-9 + 9-7 + 12-4 + 11-5 = 54-28 = 0.659

    STL/Home: 7-9 + 7-9 + 10-6 + 2-14 + 6-10 = 32-48 = 0.400
    STL/Away: 13-3 + 7-9 + 8-8 + 12-4 + 11-6 = 51-30 = 0.630

    ARZ/Home: 13-3 + 7-9 + 4-12 + 12-4 + 11-5 = 47-33 = 0.588
    ARZ/Away: 7-9 + 7-9 + 4-12 + 2-14 + 6-10 = 26-54 = 0.325

    Based on this,

    Home
    ----
    SF 0.675
    ARZ 0.588
    SEA 0.400
    STL 0.400

    Away
    ----
    SEA 0.659
    STL 0.630
    SF 0.400
    ARZ 0.325

[Edit: The good news is that this looks like an 8-0 schedule at home for the good guys.]

  • We got more tough opponents at home than the 49ers did this year. Hello, the 49ers had to travel to Green Bay and New England? Things change up from year to year, I see no problem with this.
Rams bet status: honored. Bradford still sucks.

  • Teams change from year to year. New Orlean will be a bitch to play because they have something to prove and IIRC, SF beat them last year so that will likely be a Saints win.

Tampa Bay and Minnesota are on the upswing, and if the Vikings have a good draft, they will be really dangerous.

If Jake Locker and CJ2K get their acts together, the Titans could be a real problem for opposing teams. They have talent on the defense, they just need the offense to step up. With
Kenny Britt and Kendall Wright, they have the makings of a good passing offense.

Of these 5 away games, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, the only one I am really worried about is Houston. I see us beating Atlanta, Carolina, New York and Indianapolis.

That's the beauty of our team getting passed over for ROY and other awards, they will only be that much more motivated next year. Of course if we get DeAndre Hopkins or Khasim Greene, will we have an OROY or DROY of the year candidate right there. It would blow me away if we got both :)

  • The AWAY schedule for the Hawks doesn't seem nearly as tough and "scary" as previous years.

Not necessarily because of who the opponents are...but because of who the Hawks are becoming.

Winners away from home - a team that is beginning to believe what their leader (RW) believes - that they can beat anyone, anywhere, anytime.
How was this "born in PA - living in NY" Hawk Fan born? At the age of 8 - I decided it was time to "become a man" and follow football.
So what was the great wisdom filled, analytical, reasoned factor that ultimately led me to the Seahawks?
Why the awesome uniforms of course !!

O-line is about equal. Our QB is far better than overrated Shaub, our secondary is light years better, Lynch is better, and they get a slight edge in WR for having Johnson.

Houston's secondary is actually on the upswing, they signed Jonathan Joseph from the Bengals.

Their offensive line pass protects better they allowed 27 sacks with an immobile quarter, we gave up 33 despite having Russ.

Not saying the Hawks can't win the game, but Houston is much better than given credit for. They struggled at the end of the year but injuries had quite a bit to do with that, the first part of the season they were beating really good teams.

  • It's hard to determine what team's going to step it up from year to year. We can look at the schedule right now and say that it looks fairly easy.

I wouldn't be shocked to see some of the teams that sucked last year like the Panthers come back strong.

That Texans game could be a great matchup. I hope that we get at least 3 prime time games though, and not that Thursday night crap

  • Guess I don't agree with those who think ATL and NYG on the road are not a concern. Love the confidence but unless the pass rush is improved big time, these teams will still carve up the pass defense. Think Detroit, Miami and ATL and others from this year.

The Seahawks beat the NY Giants with TJack/Whitehurst but Eli and Cruz were tearing these guys up back then. I would at least list them as a team to be concerned with as a potential loss.

I agree. Much, much tougher this past season. Not to mention the first three divisional games being on the road. It's amazing we won 11 games. I think we will win this division next season no matter what the other NFCW teams have to face.

  • I'm less worried about who we play than when we play them.

In 2012, we had a favorable schedule in that we had more home games in the second half (5) than in the first half (3). I think that helped with momentum for us. We'll probably have that switched this year, where we play more road games in the second half of the season. It'll be interesting come April when they release the final skeds.

  • Its all relative. Last years SOS at the beginning of the season was completely different then how it ended. Teams change all the time. There is only a few teams you can count on to be tough every year for the last 4 years.

    Green Bay
    New England

We dont have them this year, we beat them last year. I feel good. But dont be surprised if all of a sudden, a few of those other teams become crazy power houses kinda like we did this year.

  • I thought the schedule was based upon who won the division and so forth. I thought it was set up so that the teams that won the division had harder schedules than the second who had it harder than 3rd place and so on.

That's part of the whole parity thing. The only part that's set up years ago is what divisions we go up against. So the Niners have to play the top teams that won their divisions and the Cards play the bottom teams of that division. Also a part of parity is who is home and who is away. At least, it's SUPPOSED to work that way I've always believed. Evidently, it doesn't anymore.

I think you misunderstand how it works.

We are scheduled, on a rotating basis, to play one NFC and one AFC division each year, all four teams. Home and away were at one time on a rotation, too, but I think they've messed with that on occasion.

Our "strength of schedule" games number 2, actually. We will play the 2nd place teams from the two divisions we are not scheduled to play this year.

The parity comes from the fact that each of our division rivals will play 12 games against the same opponents that we do (four common division opponents and 8 from the two divisions we play). So the games against common opponents tie-breaker has more games to base on for in-division rivals.

I agree with this. I don't see why people are overlooking the away schedule. The absence of New England and Green Bay from the schedule makes the overall schedule look decent, but I'm not looking forward to NY on the road, Atlanta on the road, Houston on the road (unless it was the playoffs when they choke!), or even Indianapolis on the road. While I think all of those games are winnable, I also think they are losable. Given this teams ability to lose on the road, I would suspect a split under .500 for those games.

Now, if some of those get the Sunday night (I'm thinking the NY game here), Monday night or just the 4 pm EST time slot treatment, then the odds of victory improve. We'll have to see when the schedule comes out.

All of that I understood. However, I also thought the home/away was decided upon by final placement in the previous season (draft order). So, with San Fran having gone further in the playoffs than Atlanta and both being division winners, San Fran plays at Atlanta.
At least, at one time that's how it used to work. Not sure when they dropped that part, but I bet Goodel had something to do with it.

Also, not sure why people think this is an easier schedule, it's not. Rams on the road are a probably loss. So is San Fran. Atlanta on the road is losable, as is NYG and Houston. The Colts will just be better and no playoff team can be counted as a win on the road the next year. That's 6 losses right there and we finish 10-6. I thought going into this season (check the archives) that we'd be 11-5. We were, though losing and winning differently than I expected. Looking at that schedule 10-6 is probably what I'll project.

Not sure how people think that schedule looks easy. For the Niners it looks much easier. They'll lose road games to the Rams, Seahawks and Skins. At home, only the Packers look formidable, but I'd expect them to lose one of those home games. I could see them going 13-3 or 12-4 with that cake walk.

Same here. And more than the Cards.

  • Whats to worry about.......we sweep the home games and sweep our division, that is 11 wins right there. Win a couple of those away non division games and we are in business.

Only two games a year are affected by where you finish. For example as the #2 team in the NFCW the Hawks play two other#2 teams.

The 49ers play two #1 teams, the Rams two #3's and the Cardinals two #4's.

    Everything else is common opponents.

  • If we can look at the schedule and worry about 4 away games, I'd say we're in good shape. Yeah its a bummer that SF got the harder ones at home, but we had some doozies at home this past year. We'll be fine if we are going to meet expectations. Great teams win tough games.

Agreed. If Seattle is as good as we expect them to be, they're not going to have the road let downs of the past 3 years. We already know we can beat Atlanta at their house - and that game will probably be in primetime-, and I don't expect Houston to be as formidable next year. We'll drop a couple of course, but hey, no one wants to say we didn't earn our NFC West title and bye, right?

I don't know, obviously it is what it is within the division but the rest of the road schedule sure doesn't send a shiver up my spine...

    We went into NY and kicked the Giants ass a couple of years ago when they won the SB and they look to me like they're heading in the opposite direction than we are right now;

    We beat the Panthers pretty handley this year on their turf, no reason to think, that our one year more improved team can't do it again even if they take a step forward;

    Houston Texans should be a good game, I'm really looking forward to that one... I believe we can win it;

Colts? I'm guessing their fans are looking at the Hawks on their home schedule and saying, or at least thinking, that's a game we may vary well lose...

  • yep we have a few tough games on the road, and a few at home... but after this season i have way more confidence we get the job done... the beautiful thing about going into next season is, every single one of those teams on the schedule is looking at it and saying, uh oh we got seattle..... life is good...

  • The way this team plays, including on the road, I don't care who they play. Every game is winnable to the Hawks in their current form, they don't have to win them all, just most of 'em and that is reasonable. Even prior to Wilson being unleashed, they were beating good teams.

The offense that developed in the second half of the season is capable of putting up scores on any defense they face. As long as Russell Wilson is the QB, the Hawks will win most of their games. The rest of the team is built to win games on their own, by putting that kid in position to lead them, there is no ceiling. The Hawks can EASILY go 12-4 next season regardless of the schedule.

  • Looking at that, our hardest away games are in division. If we want to make a deep playoff run, we need to do better than 3-3 in division this year. We lost every away game in division last year. Reasonably, I would expect to split with San Fran, split with the Rams, and sweep the Cards.

    Panthers don't scare me.

    Colts don't scare me.

We recently beat the Giants, there, with a less talented team than we have now. They aren't the best home team, really.

Houston will probably be the toughest one. I like the individual matchups right now, but FA and the draft change a lot.

I'm mirroring others here in thinking we go 12-4

  • still doesnt seem right that the team that won the division has an easier schedule than 2nd and 3rd. but like others have said, if we are gonna be a contender, we need to win the tough games. i think we will, i see us (at this point, which is really premature) going 11-5 again. but this schedule looks (on paper, as of right now) more challenging than last years. And with SF having such an easy schedule it may be a close finish again for the division.

fyi, we won the panthers game last year because cam threw a pass in the dirt when he had a guy open for a td to take the lead at the end. i still think we win that game, but it wont be a cake walk.

i think our game vs houston could be a superbowl preview

I hardly see how this schedule looks more challenging this last years.

We had Green Bay, New England, Chicago which are imo are all harder then anybody we face next year. We also had the highest SOV last year.

Ha! Maybe the Hawks can actually beat the Bears 73-0 scoring record that we just missed against the Cards this year...

  • Meh, I'm not worried. Win your division games and take care of business at home. That's 11 wins right there and entirely doable.

    Why not?

I agree. Screw it, that schedule as a whole looks a lot better than the 2012 one did. I like that we get Atlanta and the Giants on the road. Those are teams the Hawks can beat and match up well against. The Texans is the real question mark. The thing is, by the time it is played out, there will be some change in some of those teams' status. Hopefully, for the worse.
