You can argue all you want but I have a great example and you don't.
You can try to pretend that the UK is so very different but they aren't. Let's take their gun control laws. Let's see what happens. I guarantee firearm murders don't go up.
I'll bet that they don't go down much either, considering that there are already hundreds of millions of guns in the USA. Short of an Orwellian reality where we have the secret police going door-to-door confiscating firearms (effectively, a prelude to civil war), what you are proposing is a complete fantasy.
Sure, they have fewer incidents of gun violence, but what you are choosing to ignore is the fact that the UK has a substantially higher incidence of violent crime in general (this includes all types of weapons), the highest in the entire EU. In 2009, this figure was 2034 per 100,000 people, where at the time in the USA, the figure was 466 per 100,000 people. That is nearly five times higher than our own, so your "example" is fallacious in that it chooses to home in on just one subset of violent activity, when it should be analyzing violent crimes AS A WHOLE.
Violent crime is down 47% since the ban.
Suck it.

And it's already been shown that the ban had little to nothing to do with the decline, but I'm glad it made you feel good.

Yes, you're buffoonery is hilarious.
Say more offensive shit now so people look at your fat ass.
Ah yes, the time honored tactic of "oh shit, I'm losing the debate, time to start hurling insults". Way to prove your mettle, junior.
How's it feel to know that I tugged at your strings until you lost composure to the point where you abandon your argument? It must suck to know I was so easily able to manipulate you.

So explain why it dropped even more dramatically when the ban was lifted and a bunch of states started adopting "shall issue" policies with regard to concealed carry permits?

Uhh, some fatfuck in a size small devil suit didn't wreck my day. Sorry.
What debate am I losing? New York just passed the new standard for gun laws. Seems like I'm winning.

LOL. You think the pic in the avatar is me? Wow, are you deluded or what?
Congrats on New York's newest failed attempt at curbing violent crime. If you think that states like Texas, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, Montana, North and South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Washington will follow suit, you're high, and you aren't sharing. Their law is hardly the standard for anything other than perhaps how short sighted the people in power truly are.

I found this on another forum, not my work:
Quote:
Surprising UK Crime Figures
• Around half of all violent crimes result in no injury whatsoever (according to both police figures and BCS).
• 71% of mugging (robbery and snatch theft) incidents result in no injury.
• The number of violent incidents has fallen by 36% since 1995.
• Certain "yobbish" behaviours (eg minor scuffles) have been reclassified as crime, with the effect of doubling recorded violent crime.
• A violent crime with many victims is no longer recorded as a single crime. An incident with 5 victims is now recorded as 5 crimes.
• A higher proportion of violent crime is recorded – eg the proportion of common assaults (without injury) recorded rose from around 50% to 68% between 2002 and 2003.
Anxiety Culture: Media scaremongering on crime

Crime figures 'don't add up' - Telegraph
Polly Toynbee: Don't let the truth get in the way of a bad crime story | Comment is free | The Guardian
There were 619 muders in England & Wales (population 54 million) in 2010/11
Murder rate lowest for 12 years | UK news | The Guardian
There were 104 murders in London (population 7.85 million) in the last 12 months (down 24% on last year)
Metropolitan Police Crime Figures for London - Metropolitan Police Service - Crime Figures
There were 40 Gun Homicides in England & Wales (population 54 million) in 2009/10
In terms of serious violent crime the UK has one of the lowest figures in the world, in terms of minor and nuisance crime, we often record it in our violent crime figures leading to a massive inflation of the figures and an over recording of crime. The new Government is currently looking at taking certain low level crimes off the list of crimes deemed as violent, as it is making a mockery of our figures. Although the fact the figures are so skewed because of the over recording of minor crime doesn't get in the way of idiotic journalists trying to write a daft sensationalist story.

Oh please, now you're citing "serious violent crime" as your newest arbitrary statistic of choice? I'd say that all violent crimes are pretty serious, wouldn't you?

If you read it, you will understand that A) their violent crime rate is declining and B) their violent crime statistics are inflated due to the recording process.

What a coincidence, our gun safety statistics are inflated due to the data recording process!

So you are saying that their rates are declining due to the gun ban?

Anyone?
They have been attempting to curb gun violence and violence in general since the first World War. They have done a much better overall job than us. We are not the same country as Great Britain, but we could certainly take a few plays from their playbook.

Here's a few facts to show the US violent crime and homicide rates are both DECLINING
First is an article from CNN showing different crime statistics and how they've been on the decline for years
Given that both violent crime and homicides have been on the decline the past 20 years, we must be doing alright.
Love the first link!

something they mentioned in the cnn article caught my eye. They talk about the fact that the lowering in crime statistics could have something to do with an increase in video surveillance systems. If you've been to the UK, you know that video surveillance is quite common pretty much everywhere there. One can't help but wonder how much this factors in moreso than the gun ban factors in, since it's a factor here as well without a gun ban.

Here you go, it's not the history But it's a comparison. Still wanna model the UK?
