you can go ahead and take #4 off that list, we have a great tight end and a very atheletic back up in McCoy....

LOL McCoy is more a backup to Zach, he is glacial slow.... We still need the athlete TE, one who specializes in receiving, not blocking.

I think this might be the first time I've disagreed with him. Long term future at LEO is #1 need, and he doesn't even have it on the list. I've felt this way since the draft last year, and it should be flat out obvious after the Clemons ACL.

Something also needs to be done to upgrade the run defense.

#1: LEO: Irvin is not a LEO. Clemons prime is likely over. Defense is in trouble without a capable LEO
#2: "Red Bryant" DE: Bryant sucked this year, due to an injury that will never fully go away. Bryant was a major reason for our run defense issues late in the season, and he adds ZERO pass rush. He's even missing tackles.
#3: 3-tech DT: DT is extremely unlikely to save our pass rush, but we can at least try to improve the position. Seattle should address this in FA if possible- nothing in the draft is a probable upgrade.

#4a: MLB: Seattle might want to consider MLB options since Wagner struggles against the run and is more of a natural WLB
#4b: WLB: Best early round options this year for LB are at WLB
#4c: S: Move Chancellor to OLB and upgrade two spots

#5: TE: Seattle runs a lot of 2 TE 2 WR stuff, and the upgrade over McCoy is a lot bigger than the upgrade over Tate
#6: WR: This is more about cashing in on a good WR class than a real need. Seattle only needs depth
#7: QB: Not really a need, but getting a QB every year is helps insure that we have a good, low cost backup with potential trade value down the road

STS = Scouting the Seahawks

STS has determined the Seahawks’ top 7 offseason needs to be (in order of importance):

1. Interior pass rush

2. Weak side linebacker

3. Big-play wide receiver

4. Athletic, pass-catching tight end

5. Long-term starter at left guard

6. Possession receiver depth

7. Backup QB

The only one I don't agree with is LG. I feel like James Carpenter is the answer there...... I would like to see one more Guard added to the depth though. The others listed are exactly what I feel we need.

McQuistan is a very capable left guard too. I'd be 100% fine with McQuistan at LG for the next several years if it came to that. I am pretty sure that our O-line is set for the long term.

Agree here. I think Carp can get it done at LG. Stephens is a big fan of Sweezy though, thinks he's gonna be a starter at one of the guard spots.... That's cool :)

Oddly enough, that means we're about good at OL. Just needs experience.

If there is a MLB somewhere they like for some value then fine, move Wags to WLB. I just don't think its even a need, as I belive he's fine against the run and will get better. He struggled early in the year, but he is a rookie and I think its way to soon to say he can't be the answer at Mike. He is a serious contender for DROY.

I don't trust Rice to stay healthy....so I really want a WR in the 1st or 2nd and I love this group of WRs. One injury to a WR and we are in trouble.

How is Bruce Irvin not a Leo? I keep hearing this, I see nothing to support this.

His birthday is January 11. That makes him a Capricorn, not a Leo.

I think you misunderstood me. I was highlighting 3 different ways to address the WLB need. One of them would be to move Wagner and draft his replacement. Purely in isolation, MLB is not a need.

At least right now he is a huge liability in the run. He can't stay on the field all downs. I am thinking what he means is that we need to find a guy to replace Clemons. A guy who can play in both running and passing situations. Bruce could gain some weight and end up being that guy but he seems to have a long way to go and I wouldn't bank my future on it. I think Bruce's value will be as a pass rush specialist that comes in for Red on the opposite side of the LEO. I don't consider this a bad thing really as a pass rush specialist who can come in and get ~10+ sacks a year is very nice luxury to have.

1. Interior pass rush - Henry Melton in FA

2. Weak side linebacker - Phillip Wheeler in FA or Draft (2nd-4th round pick most likely)

3. Big-play wide receiver - Draft (personally I love DeAndre Hopkins for this spot)

4. Athletic, pass-catching tight end - (3rd-6th round pick)

5. Long-term starter at left guard - James Carpenter (no need to bring in a high priced player here, maybe draft for depth)

6. Possession receiver depth - not sure I agree, particularly if we do bring in a big play receiver

7. Backup QB - draft or Matt Moore > Bruce Gradkowski > Matt Cassell (assuming he gets released)

I would add that it takes a good while to develop offensive lineman. I wouldn't draft one highly because this team
is built to contend right now. So a quality free agent would definitely help. Where as we could draft a defensive player that
could likely contribute right away it might be less of a free agent priority. John can draft wlb's in his sleep....

I completely disagree with the ludicrious notion that Bruce Irvin ISN'T a LEO. He was a rookie poeple, get a grip. It took Clemmons years of maturing before blossoming with the Seahawks. it may take Bruce another year to become an all around player good player, but let's not get too carried away, He had 9 sacks as a rookie in a limited role. Some of you act like he's Laurence Jackson or something.

IMO Guard is completely NOT a need. Think about this We have Carp and Sweezy most likely the 2 starters next year, If they get hurt or can't cut it we've got McQuistan, Moffit and Rishaw Johnson you. That's 5 guys to play 2 spots. I think our depth is perfectly fine. IMO depth at Tackle is much more in need than at Guard where we seem to have alot of options.

We have 10 picks this year, I'd expect 1-2 WR's, 1-TE, 3-DLmen. I'd expect at least half of our picks to address these spots. I'd also expect another LBer and secondary player, we can never have too many of those guys.

Cameron Morrah could/should be that guy if he's healthy next year. At 6'3" 245 with a 4.54 40, Morrah could almost play wide reciever. Doesn't have bad hands either IIRC. What was his injury again..?

I don't like that idea as a full time solution, but I could definitely get behind it situationally. Don't even think we need to draft anyone to make it happen as Jeron Johnson is more than capable (and looks a little better in coverage than Kam from what I can tell).
