Biden gets one too! While I have a hard time arguing for or against a pay raise for Joe Schmo clerk at the CIA. I do think this move in terms of elected officials is completely bogus! Obama Orders Pay Raise For Congress, Federal Workers, Joe BidenThese bunch of ineffectual, slime balls that infest the halls of power in DC as they argue along party lines, both sides refusing to give any real ground in terms of negotiating should be looking for a job. NOT getting a raise. Here's your fiddle Obama, play me a dirge as Rome errrr DC burns.

Well, they need it after all. Times are hard, with the recession and all. Paychecks just don't go as far as they used to. And they do deserve it for all the hard work they've been doing.

I agree. Those poor congressman barely make anything. And they've been working really hard to fix all of our problems by passing new laws.

On the other hand, the extra $9-$18 (after tax) on my own paychecks will make all the difference in the world!

Should have cut their pay. Probably they need it now since they passed that thing barring them from insider trading, to offset the costs of not being able to commit felonies legally. I mean how else can they get the Beemer with all the options and the mansion, rather than the ordinary home. How can we expect them to suffer like that?!?

You guys are all a bunch of dolts. This is for all federal workers. The president and members of the senate and house are federal employees as well, stop focusing on what makes you feel upset and focus on the positive that the US largest employer is giving a raise to it's employees.
This is an automatic raise that only has been halted because of a spending freeze, meaning federal employees haven't been getting raises.
Stop pretending like Obama sneakily created a raise for himself and his buddies.

All of us? Even me, an actual federal worker (nuclear engineer for the Navy), talking about the extra dollars on my paychecks?

If you follow the links, there are charts in the original ExOrder that shows the effects on all GS paygrades.

Stop pretending like Obama sneakily created a raise for himself and his buddies. Great. Everyone gets taxed more so that a few people get pay raises. Sounds fair to me, especially considering how great the economy is!

You don't think our federal workers should get cost of living / inflation pay increases like normal jobs?

They should, but how many of them actually need/deserve them? I think they should be paid a market value of what they could be making doing a similar job in the private sector. I'll admit there are probably many federal employees that deserve a pay raise, but others not so much...such as congress.

Least of my worries with the budget is federal employees getting a little raise after freezing raises for 2 years.

Normal jobs usually offer pay increases based on the quality of one's work. You're confusing a promotion with cost of living increases. My company offers yearly raises for each employee regardless of performance and I'm confident most companies do as well. If they weren't performing, they wouldn't be employed. Yearly cost-of-living/inflation raises are pretty standard. I'm surprised you're even arguing this? You obviously have been employed before.

There's no way in hell Congress and House members shouldn't be lumped into the same category as GS3 workers in military commissaries. After all, if a raise is good for the lowly commissary workers, it goes double for the big guys really doing the heavy lifting and saving us from total disaster.

Our stock price is at $95 a share, CEO got 150 million dollars in total compensation in 2011, and we have to claw and scratch for every dime and hour. All we hear is "the budget is tight" or "its a competitive business" and other assorted lame ass excuses! Meanwhile we waste money bouncing (see shipping) cases of low profit items back and forth between warehouses across the country but somehow a case of product getting frequent flyer miles racking up many more times the $$$ in shipping costs than the case's value makes fiscal sense?!?! ..................Simple math disagrees
