Christianity: something people bash because they've been raised in an environment that does so, and they reflexively reject anything that would require them to surrender control of their own lives and decisions.

See? Two can play that game. ;)

Christianity: Some people dig it, some people don't.

I was raised in a christian family that attended church every week. I didn't escape that mess until I was old enough to live on my own.

As far as moving the Sabbath to Sunday, every major organized Christian religion that I know of, except 7th Day Adventist meets on Sunday. So what's your point there?

You should also know that the pilgrims came to America after the Protestant religion had been declared the official church of England. I doubt the pope would have focused his "death squads" on the pilgrims.

Yes, I am Catholic. Confirmed on top of that. I will be the first to admit that my religion has a tarnished past. But dude, really? If the Pope is the anti christ, then which one was/is?

As far as your reference to Jesus being born on December 25th, the Pope just released a book acknowledging that.

As far as the Sabbath to Sunday, I was just stating a fact. Most Christians believe the Sabbath is Sunday, which is total crap. All you have to do is look up Sunday in the dictionary and than look up Saturday. The Sabbath is the 7th Day. Don't believe me, ask a Jew....They only been keeping the Sabbath for thousands of years.

Puritans didn't like the Church of England either. One could argue they were afraid of another Bloody Mary....Weak argument, let's just say, if you didn't follow that Church back than, you could be in trouble. The Church of England is not much different than the Catholic Church. They Church of England arrested you too. I think the King just wanted to commit adultery....Correct me if I'm wrong here...Not a Bible Scholar by any means. This is why the framers of the constitution wanted the Church and State to be separated, because they saw what the Catholic Church has done...

The coming pope, the title of the pope....I thought it was a given that the anti-christ and false prophet have not arrived on the scene yet...Book of Revelations? Can we agree that the people that have held the title of pope, have made great lies, and done great evil in it's name? Could it be possible for a future pope to be 10 times worse in the future? We have heard what Catholic Priest's have done with the little power they have, can you imagine if the Catholic Church ever regained it's power and decided to get back at all us evil people that protest against his thrown? Just saying....The executions and tortures by the Catholic Church was a little brutal.. There already is a new age coming that is pretty much against all us people of the Book.

There is this Saint Malachi person from the past, no sure how accurate he is, but he predicts only one more pope after the current one. He sort of says that he will persecute....You know what they say, if you forget history, you are doomed to repeat it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes

Most staunchly anti-religious people I know grew up with quite a bit of religion in their lives. Most of the ones that had no religion in the house growing up, or had parents that actively disliked it/bashed it, are of the "I don't care" ilk. Just most that I've known, anyways.

Other then the Baptist church meeting on Sundays, your posts were primarily directed at the Catholic church. Pretty much to the point that it appeared you definitely were willing to ignore the other religions.

As far as meeting on Saturday vs Sunday. No explanation there, but I don't think there is anything nefarious going on during these days and times.

Are you're just now willing to admit that the Puritans didn't agree with the Church of England, or were you always aware of the Catholic churches greatly diminished influence in England when they decided to leave England? Either way, just admit you were wrong on this point and move on.

Since the Pope is human and all religions are lead by humans, it's just as easy to infer that any church leader from any religion could be the anti-christ. Further, it could be any leader of a country powerful enough to dominate world politics.

Being a Christian is simply the act of accepting Jesus as your savior and striving everyday to walk in his footstep, to be like Jesus. Yes, there are a number of religions that fall under this umbrella. The only church that I knowingly have an issue with calling themselves Christian is Westboro. I am sure the reasons are obvious enough that I don't have to point them out.

Just out of curiosity, what religion are you?

The Catholic Church has it's influence in almost all modern Churches. The Pope changed the Sabbath Day to Sunday. http://almightywind.com/wolves/sabbathchanged.htm

For giggles, I will tell you that Prince Charles of Wales is a candidate for the anti-christ and the pope is a candidate for the false prophet. English royalty have much influence in the world scene, as well as the pope. Can you name two other institutions that have more? The U.S. military is under control of the U.N. and the U.S. is about to take a huge beating cause we are heavily in debt. The Wales flag might surprise you....just saying.

What is yours?

I am Catholic, I made that perfectly clear on the first page.

English Royalty appears to be window dressing anymore and I won't go into any Illuminati tin foil hat conversations about that. It could be debated that as the US goes, pretty much goes England. Making the US one of the most influential world players.

European Union, even given all it's economic issues sure has a vast amount of power over the majority of Europe. That is a lot of influence.

The Saud family, who are also HUGE players in the oil industry which pretty much controls the worlds economy. Their influence is pretty BIG over the entire world.

Not saying any of the above is true, just giving some examples of some entities that are pretty influential on the world stage.

One needn't be Christian, or indeed religious at all to believe there is more than this life we see.

That's just hope that there is.

Hoping there's more after this life is perfectly fine, and is not religion at all. Shit, I hope there's an afterlife and it's amazing; everything each person wants it to be for themselves.

Believing that is the case is the difference between logical thought and believing Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Most of the people I know that are fundamental Chritians are decent people. However, a few of them hide behind it like a veil of security by going to church on Sunday to cover their ass for being dicks and cunts all week long.

I know none that actually live the life supposedly preached by the bible and Jesus.

Being religious doesn't make you a bad person. It doesn't say anything about you (besides that you're a person of faith). I would say the same for an agnostic or atheist as well. I think most religious people view us non believers as someone that looks down on them (and visa versa). Absolutely not true. Only when you start debating your beliefs is when it begins the difficult journey of trying to convince someone of such an outlandish belief. Whether you're trying to convince of the non-existence or existence, either side seems ridiculous to the other.

I agree with this. The stronger people feel about what they believe, the more likely they are to be asses about it.

I do, however, believe it is entirely possible to have an amicable, informative exchange, when the goal of the conversation is understanding rather then proselytizing (or ridiculing). Such conversations are actually quite entertaining and enlightening.

I seriously doubt such a conversation is going to happen on this board, though. Certainly not in this thread.

It's nearly impossible to have an honest conversation because you're coming from two completely different mind sets. One is the skeptic. Show me something, anything for me to believe. One has faith, which amounts to nothing to the skeptic but everything to the person with faith.

What's true is in nearly every instance the Bible (and all religious texts before it) has been proven incorrect. We know the Bible was written by man for man. Was it at the direction of the God? That's up to you decide.
