Tom Cruise is a midget. Jack Reacher is 6'5", tough as nails and I doubt talks in the nasal whine like Cruise.

what a miss cast.

I've read a lot of the Reacher novels and some are interesting, others boring as watching the Eagles play.

I've read that Cruise does a good job in this flick.

I've heard nothing but outrage from folks who like the Reacher books. Can't for the life of me figure out why they cast Cruise for this role, whether he does a decent job or not.

I've read a couple of the novels and I don't mind the casting too much. Most books that are made into movies should cast a good actor over one who just looks like the character from the books imo. The character can stay intact even if they don't necessarily look like the person from the books.

Yea, i've read all the books and enjoy them. His size is such a big part of his charachter that it is an odd fit. I'm still psyched for the movie though, Cruise usually does a nice job.

Agreed on the first part...I too have read them all and Cruise is just wrong for the part. That being said, I'll probably be in the audience Friday night.

They should have cast Xenu. He's way taller.

I don't know Jack about the Reacher books, but I can't wait for friday.
I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan and I'm hoping this is similar.

I have read and enjoyed all the Reacher books, and definitely feel Cruise is a "reach" for this role.

In trying to think of *antone* else to fill the role, I keep coming back to Matthew McConnaghy .. or howevewr you spell it. He has a smooth, drawling delivery, hwich fits my mental image, plus good size

Sorry my friend, the Reacher books are nothing like Splinter Cells. I enjoyed them too but like all Clancy stuff it gets to be the same old thing every book. Its about like reading Patterson stuff.

Liam Neeson. Granted, he's in everything nowadays, but this woulda been good for him. I see MCconnaghy as too laid back. Personally, never saw Reacher with a Southern drawl.

Neeson only has one character, a slow growly voice with no real fluctuation.
He kind of annoys me.

you would dare diss Hannibal Smith? I also thought he was damned good in the original Taken. And in Dead Pool his first movie role with Clint Eastwood I thought he did well with a truly crummy script. Only thing that script was good for was to let Dirty Harry get in that TV gals pants. lol

I think Tom Hardy would have been a great choice (the dude who played Bane in the latest Batman). He's a bit on the short side as well, but is much more Reacher then Cruise, imo.

Tom Cruise is a brilliant choice because he pisses off the fan base. They in turn will want the movie to fail miserably. So they will then watch for the reviews. If the reviews are then favorable, the fans will talk themselves into seeing the movie. (And the studio will make money off Cruise's name from the non fan base, anyway.) Some great marketing at work, there.

For those of you that enjoy the books, here's a decent article about the author.

Just got back from watching 'Reacher'. Gotta say, I quickly got into the movie and forgot about who was playing it. Liked the movie and would recommend it. Plus, I see now why Cruise was cast....he was the Producer.

Nice read. I like getting into the writers head and life.
