Ok a bit off topic, but the NFL did have a moment of support for the kids who were victims of that horrid school shooting.

Normally I try to ignore this stuff but this one is so far over the top. My feeling...it appears that the 'gun free zone' signs in front of our schools don't work...DUH! Now they will likely push for more gun control, and perhaps larger 'gun free zone' signs? zero impact.

Arm the teachers. They also have a responsibility to protect the children.. I know it's extreme but the killing of 20 small children can not ever happen again, and there is only ONE sure way to stop it. Every teacher that wants a gun should be allowed to have one. In fact a pocket .380 should be a requirement and the next time some ass wipe thinks he is walking into a gun free zone to wipe out innocent children he will be shot in the face at the door....

Enough of this Liberal Bull shit

I refuse to accept the idea that we live in a country where we have to ARM OUR KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS.

It's basically risk/reward. The reward is that the teacher's can hopefully stop these psychopaths.

The risk is that the teacher is the psychopath themselves.....

Lets ask this question - How often have any of you seen "Arms Races" work out in a positive manner??? When you break down this proposition, that is what you are really talking about.

And while the school shootings are HORRIBLE....they are also EXTRAORDINARILY RARE if you factor in how many schools and students there are out there. And how long would it be until a kid gets a hold of a teacher's gun and commits a crime/shoots someone with it?? I'm sorry, but I contend that you are actually introducing more danger for something that is a very rare occurence.

Bing bing.

There's been some pretty convincing studies that even slightly trained people, when faced with gun violence, have difficulty sorting out precisely what is going on and functioning. You pretty much need full on police or military style training to be proficient enough with a firearm that a gun is an asset, not a potential liability.

The percentages are pretty staggering, I believe something like 40% of the suicides in this country involve someone using their own gun on themselves... it's way more frequent for someone to kill themselves, or attack someone with a weapon, than it is for someone to successfully defend a gun attack with a gun.

(I read recently online that there were only seven occurrences of this in the last 20 years -- someone with a gun stopping a gun attack in progress. If being armed was effective, you'd definitely see a higher statistic.)

Yes, more guns in school. Great idea. I will go a step further: Lets train the children to carry and use guns. Every last one of em. It will certainly improve the grades kids bring home, at the very least. Probably end pedophilia too.

Next thing you know, out tykes will be running the lunch box's and backpacks thru a scanner and standing with their feet apart and arms over their heads just so they can get inside a school.

And just like the TSA in airports, the people running things will still miss too many things.

I actually thought this same thing. The positive being that any chicken shit thinking of doing this horrific thing has to realize someone might fire back.

The bad is there is a kid possibly getting a firearm.

I say beef up security, with armed, trained professionals.

Depending on school size, a number of them. One dressed as that pro, one not. That way the would be suspect wouldn't be able to focus on removing them. Wouldn't know what hit 'em.

These people get into the schools very easily, that is a major part of keeping schools safe by making access more difficult. everywhere else like theaters and malls?.....Not so easy.

I say arm the Resource Officers. The only teacher I would think of arming is the JROTC instructor.

Give every country nukes so no one nukes each other.

If you gave every child AIDS, Sandusky wouldn't fuck them, either.

Release all of the inmates and put all of us good citizens in the prisons under lockdown security. That should keep us safe... and if anyone acts out, we throw 'em to the wolves.

It has worked well for the last four years in Harrold, TX.

Unless you think the powerful anti-media conglomerate in that town managed to suppress all the instances of kids grabbing their teachers's guns and shooting people up with them. Great idea, also.

Wow in a town with a grand total of THREE HUNDRED people.

And only because the nearest PD is 25 miles away.

Are less guns going to stop things like this happening? Are more guns?

However, let me get this straight, after years of intensive schooling, teachers, who have enough stress between dealing with other peoples spoiled, petulant children, pressure from the government in the name of standardized result based academics, teachers who are grossly underpaid for the time they've put in, now we are putting them responsible for a gun in the classroom and for defeating whatever sociopath wants to shoot up a school?

There's a deeper societal problem that has nothing to do with guns that is at the core of all of these shootings. Guns are the buzz word, and personally, a little more regulation would be great. But banning guns, or whatever, isn't going to stop this shit. What's the cause? We as a country need to look a little deeper and get a little honest with ourselves about this shit. Look closer.

How about we start using the tax dollars that seem to get lost in every states budget and are supposed to be used for Social and Health services. Between the abused kids whom the case workers always say they have to many cases and not enough people to the mental health and well being departments that say in many instances that we can't help till they commit a crime because we don't have the funding and resources as well.

How many of these mass killings had the people who did it tagged as a problem or danger only to be released due to not being able to deal with them individually only to be released and escalate their behavior.

I saw the gun thing start popping up left and right and hear people jumping on it already as the cause, his mom had all guns and things legally. This kid if he was planning on doing this and she did not have guns could have got them off the street or a damn Gun Show if he was determined.
