Thurmond out; Sidney Rice playing vs Bills

The Essential Online Seahawks Fan Forum Community. There simply is NO substitute. RATING: PG-13
  • John Boyle ‏@johnpboyle
CB Walter Thurmond (hamstring) won't play Sunday. That means a big role for both Jeremy Lane and Bryon Maxwell. #Seahawks

    Curtis Crabtree ‏@Curtis_Crabtree
Pete Carroll said CB Walter Thurmond will not play Sunday in Toronto. WR Sidney Rice practiced and is expected to go.

  • I feel confident in our back ups. It's our deepest position. Lane and Maxwell are both very good replacements. I'm sure if Thurmond was on the fence they ruled him out because of the SF game.

So Martin, Carp, and our back up CB...not a huge deal. We'll make due.

  • Yeah, people need to remember we are still one of the healthiest teams in the league...Our top CB was SUSPENDED, not injured...So our #3 CB, #1b. LG (with lots of depth and very little difference between him and the next guy up), our 4th WR...who else?

  • The Bills do not have a dynamic passing offense - that helps. Sherman will lock down Stevie Johnson.

The one Bills receiver we SHOULD be worried about, outside of Johnson, is a tight end - Scott Chandler.

  • Good thing Sherman is appealing or this would be brutal

When I heard hammy issue this is what I expected. A bit of rest for hamstring does wonders whereas the risk if you play on it is just huge unlike some injuries that kind of "doesn't get worse"

Not saying this is going to happen, because it would be like lightning striking twice (it could happen, but not that likely), but I thought that EXACT thing last year when Sherman was called into action. It worked out pretty well. I don't know if that next guy will play lights out or not, but after Sherman coming in last year, I have hopes

Yep, it's not like Pete is going to look for someone to put in there that he's found walking the streets of Seattle.
I trust Pete and John as talent evaluators extraordinaire, They've done an astounding job of plugging players in that are hungry to show.

Excellent point. We know them, they don't know us. Our back ups have the luxury of playing / studying under the best secondary in the league. That elite secondary was hand picked by Pete and Pete picked the back ups as well. I think with a decent rush, we wil be fine and may even find another diamond in the process.

Actually, stretching doesn't help you prevent injuries. It's a myth, basically.

    http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/09/0 ... -injuries/
    http://www.runnersworld.com/stretching/ ... t-injuries

Stretching before straight up running doesn't - if you're a regular runner that is, it's still beneficial for someone who hasn't been at full-fitness, and in a sport like football where there's a lot of changing direction (which forces muscles into various positions), it's definitely helpful.

But that does prove something I always thought true - when I was running every day I never ever stretched and never felt I had to. That said, I stopped about 4 months ago and now my muscles all feel inflexible and any time i do any light exercise they tighten up quickly unless I stretch first

Provide some good evidence for this.

Nobody is arguing that it doesn't loosen your muscles, the argument is whether tight/unloosened muscles contribute more to injury, and they don't; even if it feels logical.
