This is my first post and I thought I'd jump right into it. first off I was at the jets game and my lord did I miss seeing KJ out there. without him we have a VERY mediocre run defense. I know Mike Morgan wasn't awful in his first start but he's nowhere near as fast or as powerful as KJ. Bobby is a stud and he impresses me every game I watch. I have a feeling he's gonna be a hard stick to break, meaning injuries aren't likely heading his way anytime soon, he's a rook and a damn big one at that. Leroy worries me the most though, yeah he has flashes of elite tackling but he misses more than the other LBs and has a REALLY BAD reaction time. I love Leroy because he was on our XL team and he contributed plenty to that season. I hate to say it but he's getting older and slower and he's the worst LB on our team when it comes to man coverage. I think we draft another LB in the second round like Wagner(LBs aren't worth first round picks, i.e. Curry, Keuchly or whatever that pussy cats name is lol). I think the lower we draft the better players we end up getting which seems like a contradiction to the whole use of rounds but I think it's to hype up the players and media. What do you all think? I think one more solid LB and were division champs by far! GO HAWKS! STAY HIGH! STAY FLY! BTW: - yours truly, DabHawk

Another freak would be great! The defense is good but its not dominate. I agree with your position.
There is room to improve on both trenches and LB. I dont think wide receivers are first round picks myself. If Willis part two there you get him.

I think Kuechly has been worth his draft position, but I agree you can pick up good LBs outside of the first round. I'd love to hit on a Julian Peterson style OLB

I think the team has built itself into a place where it can legitimately just draft BPA, whatever position that may be. Agree with your analysis of our LBs, although the run defense was both KJ Wright and Jason Jones being out, wasn't it?
That said, good LB depth can be had late (such as Koutouvides was). If we're drafting an LB to start, he'd better genuinely be BPA, because I think we'd see a greater return from upgrading at WR or DL.
Still, a stud LB would be a great pickup late in the first.

Not a fan of LB, WR, or TE in the first. But if some player really is BPA, you grab him. I'm pretty sure we'll grab at least 1 LB sometime in the draft, and a WR. I have no clue when. In P&J I trust.

Problem with WRs as we're seeing with Tate is they often take 3 years to "get it". FA at WR or would it hurt the cap space too much? It certainly would really free the draft up to go BPA if a playmaker were signed via FA. This team does need another true playmaker IMO.

I understand the idea of positional value relative to top 5 picks, but the blanket generalization that X position shouldn't go in the first round is odd to me. It always depends on the player, the situation, the team, and the draft class. IMO, for this team, a true top-flight wideout probably pays the best dividends in terms of improving our team, if he's available.

We definitely need more LBers, but I agree, LB in the 1st isn't a necessity per se.

If you read Kearly's write-up here you see how he thinks a big FA signing seems unlikely due to cap room. Things could change, of course, but Kip is pretty on top of such things around here. It's only his opinion but he has a good bead on things Seahawk. You see, I've been arguing all along that Tate just needed some time to keep learning the system and maturing. It seems like he's coming around and becoming a legitimate top tier WR for us. With he and Rice, we have what looks to be a pretty good WR tandem. It's hard to imagine going 1st round on WR IMHO, or wasting prescious resources on a big name FA.

With our first pick I'd be down for a freak of nature olb to replace hill, or any beast amongst men type DL. We really can do just about anything, which is really exciting. There's TE, WR, LB, DL, OL, can do just about whatever we want to, as some have said, within reason we can go BPA, i think we should go wr with our 2nd pick, a wr that is also a legitimate kick return specialist.
We have Flynn as well, we could get something of value for him for sure. Going to be yet another fun off/pre season, but I'm more than happy to enjoy the end of this one, and the playoffs.

We need to find Hill's replacement this offseason. I think the Hawks wanted to replace him last offseason but couldn't find the right guy. Hill is good, but I believe they want to get younger and faster at that spot. I dont think it needs to be in Round 1 though. Look at round 2 or 3.

Rob has been doing his best to get me excited about Cordarelle (sp?) Patterson in the first round, who supposedly would be a WR/KR/PR/Option type player, similar to Golden Tate. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but if the dude has the speed to stretch the field I could be down.

I think bpa on O-line or D-line pays the best/earliest return on investment. Both improve the rest of the team behind them. More time to throw and better run blocking with an o-line investment. Pressure off of the LBs and defensive backfield with DL investment.

A Will to replace LeRoy is definately on the agenda IMO and I coud potentially see them investing a high pick into the position a'la BWags if the right guy comes along. Will LB is an important position in this defense and it takes a dynamic kind of athlete to fill the role; strong enough to stuff the run but fast enough to cover the flat with enough ball skills to make some plays (think Derrick Brooks as your archetype).
For all it sucks that it took an injured KJ to do it, it's nice to see Mike morgan get some starting reps. He's a talented kid and could potentially develop into LeRoy's successor. I haven't closed the book on Korey Toomer either, though I think he's a lot greener than the guys thought and will require a lot more work (which is exactly what the practice squad is for).
Even with those two well in the mix, I still think we draft someone with the intention of having them take over for LeRoy long term and have the lot of them comPETE for the job with the incumbent LeRoy Hill (who might just win the starting job for a couple more years).

I actually had a different point of view that we didn't miss KJ all the much this last game. When Morgan stepped into the fire the previous week in the middle of the game he did make some bad mistakes, but then settled down later and I though he played very well this last game. Would have been nice to have KJ back, yes, but it was honestly a marginal step down, IMO.
I'm not in any hurry to get another LB. I still think Toomer has more raw ability than most LBs in the nfl not named Wagner. Toomer has also run in the 4.4s previously and had a 42" vert. He's truly an explosive athlete. Oddly enough he used it for mostly pass rushing in college though and has a big learning curve. Morgan and Smith are two more explosive athletes who have given us good minutes. I think we'll need to add a LB and we'll probably add two to be honest, but they won't be high picks or high dollar. At least I hope not. It's not a NEED.
I agree with previous posters that we go BPA in this next draft and that's a beautiful thing to be in a position to do.

Also, I didn't think our run defense was THAT bad with Mike Morgan against the Vikes - the 77 yard run came with KJ on the field, and whilst AP burst a few 10-20 yard runs (5 i think) after that, he was mostly contained. And AP does that to a lot of good teams.

If Alec Ogletree is there, when we pick, I'll be praying my damnedest that we draft him.

IIRC, the big ADP run was partially KJ's fault. wasn't it him that over-pursued him to the sideline where he should have been corralled against the sideline for a modest gain but then got juked out of his jockeys when ADP made that wicked cut inside?
