I guess the Hawks are adding zone-read to Wilson's playbook. Anyone have any clue what this is?

They already have.

It's basically an option play out of shotgun where Wilson can either hand it off to Lynch or pass.

Sorta technical.

In shotgun with the RB at the QB's side (opposite of the zone, to the side of the read - say to the left) Run zone on the front side (right - the RB will cross the face of the QB) and the backside DE isn't blocked. If the DE pinches down the line to chase the RB, the QB keeps. If he comes upfield to QB depth, you give it to the RB.

I guess Wilson running the zone-read is something the Jets are afraid of. QB reads are something he probably is still learning to do. Damn, man, any team coming into the Clink better be scared. They better be REAL REAL scared.

RG3 has been doing this with a good degree of success in Washington.

The Hawks seem to be not just opening the playbook for RW but borrowing from other teams well. Wide-receiver screens that made Tate look like Harvin (studying the Vikes). That Fake pitch to Lynch and rollout pass looked similar to some Wisconsin highlight plays.
It seems Bevell and RW have been communicating pretty well to sort out plays that will work for the team.

What play can you.run that isn't being used somewhere already?

None, but is that really the point? The object is to keep them guessing which play will be used. He has all of his pass options that are availabe from the gun, plus an option to hand it off to the RB based upon his read.

I wasn't able to catch the last game, but if what others are saying is true and they're running zone read like Oregon does, it's meant to be simple. It's predictable based on the line up (inside zone read RB is to the side and slightly deeper .... outside zone read RB is directly to the side of the QB). How well it works is based upon how well the defense plays their assignments. That and speed. You can run the inside/outside zone read out of all different formations, but it's still the same concept of reading the DE. The Panthers tweaked it a little by pulling an interior lineman and reading the DT instead, but again, still the same concept.

That said, anytime you use your QB as an option in the run game, he's always in danger of getting killed.
