The first four picks were great. Irvin, Wagner, Wilson, Turbin. After that, oddly (for a Pete/Schneider draft) the later rounds didn't produce as much: Howard, Toomer, Lane, Guy, Sweezy and Scruggs.

Lane, Sweezy and Scruggs are good. Lane has been hurt lately, but he did some good things previously. Scruggs is getting rotational time and Sweezy even started a couple of games. He'll be here for the long haul.

Guys don't have as much opportunity these days to shine. Not to say they will but we won't see quite as much instant awesomeness.

I will say I'm feeling awesome for loving Lavonte David, Casey Heyward, Russell, and Hightower coming out. Course I didn't like Chandler Jones one bit, but still! Yay me!

Also no way would I put Russell as third best rook on the team. He's the best. He's playing QB. And he's looking damn good these days.

I have high hopes for Howard,Lane and Sweezy.Everything I have heard is the Hawks love Howard at DT its just he is behind 4 really good guys right now(Mebane,Branch,McDonald and Scruggs.)Scruggs is playing becuase he has the game to play end and DT.

I always notice Lane on special teams.Also liked his aggressive play in preseason.Also has the good size the Hawks coaches like in a corner.

Sweezy is OK as a guy learning a position as a backup.He played D-line in college.The fact that he has started a game already shows his potentiol.

Howard could see time next year as a 3rd down specialist depending on how the offseason goes (Jason Jones). Toomer actually looked very good as a pass rusher in the preseason before being let go and put on the PS a couple times. I don't know if he sticks, but I think we'll probably see him back next preseason.

Scruggs and Sweezy were the late round steals this year. Guy might be someone to watch in 2013 because in terms of talent he's tailor made for the job Jeron Johnson currently holds. Lane kind of seemed "Trufant-esque" to me in the preseason- not great in coverage and not physical but excellent in other ways such as tackling and pursuit.

You look at Wilson, Wagner, Irvin, Turbin and think about how amazing it is that those four players came from one half of one draft. I think this already looking like the best draft in team history. The only question now is by how much.



I don't know if anyone would make the case that Wilson is our 3rd best 2012 pick by the Seahawks (behind Irvin and Wagner). He's closer to being the 3rd best pick in the whole draft than the 3rd best pick by the Seahawks. He's having one of the best rookie QB seasons in NFL history, and he's still getting better. If there was a redraft right now I find it doubtful that he'd get out of the top 5 picks.

I agree, and if you add in value, Wilson was the BEST draft pick of 2012 right now. The production of a top 5 pick in the 3rd round? Yes, please.

Scruggs and Howard will pay dividends when we can't afford to keep Jones. Pass rushers take time to develop and these two have the tools to be excellent interior pass rushers and can double as depth for Bryant, Mebane and Branch. They aren't the prettiest picks nor are will they show their savvy with better starters in place but these are picks that will be praised 3 years from now.

How quickly people forget Craig Terrill and his inability to do anything at an elite level. Those are not the back-up lineman you want.

Sweezy was able to switch positions and make the team as a back-up. He still is below average but I feel that in no time he will be a viable back-up guard.

Guy is with the team but was beat out by Jeron Johnson for snaps. Speaking of, how bout Jeron Johnson?

Yep, I don't think Chuckie Gruden is going to let Melv Kiper off the hook with his criticism of Wilson either LOL.
If Wilson keeps going like this, I don't see how he can be dismissed for O-ROY.
Hard to wrap my head around the idea, that the best of Russell Wilson is still to come, because as a Rook, he's lighting it up like a well versed vet.
Bobby Wagner is a tackle machine that has to be game planned for, and Irvin has 5 sacks and smokin', just waiting to catch fire.
Sweezy and the other late rounders are on wait and see, because they aren't seeing as much game time as the others that were taken in the earlier rounds.
And when there are guys in the locker room wearing shirts saying it ain't easy being Sweezy, just tells me that he's going to be just fine when they finally do unlatch his cage door.

Good point. I seriously think Jones will not be resigned and Scruggs and Howard will a chance to fill his role. It's interesting that Scruggs has 2 sacks and Jones has 2.5 so far and Scruggs has had significantly less play time.

I think Toomer will have a change to compete for Leroy Hill's job next year He's on the PS injured list which means he'll be with the team next year is my guess. Guy is the most disappointing player of the draft IMO, in that we kept hearing he'd be our big nickle player and he's played very little this year. At least Lane is contributing on special teams and Sweey an Scruggs are key backups.

As for Sweezy, my hope is they move him to RT to compete with Breno. He's more athletic than Breno and he's got a mean streak just like Breno so I think he could be a valuable asset at RT.

No love for Lane guys? Dudes been GREAT on special teams the last two weeks, on punt coverage most notably.

I really noticed Lane on Sunday. Guy was a rocket out there on kick coverage.

As for Gruden/Kiper... I hope next year during the draft coverage (if Gruden even decides to participate in the draft coverage again) that he doesn't say a word to Kiper about Russell, but just puts up a framed 8x10 glamour shot of Russell Wilson on the desk and touches it every time Mel says something stupid. Or comes out wearing a Russell Wilson jersey or something like that. That'd be funny.

Lane has been great on special teams. I made a thread about it yesterday.

I'm in agreement with the idea of Sweezy as a Tackle for the reasons you just mentioned. I think Breno needs to be pushed for the job next season at the very least and this would get the most out of Sweezy's athleticism. Although, if Tom Cable thinks he's a guard, dude's a guard, end of story. That's why I'd pay to get inside Tom Cable's brain. When he sees J.R. Sweezy, his own project, does he project him as a guard or a tackle?

Wilson probably goes Round 1 (which in itself, getting him in Round 3 is obviously tremendous value).. but not Top 5. Here was the order before

1 - Luck
2 - RG3
3 - Richardson
4 - Kalil
5 - Blackmon

There's no way Luck and RG3 don't go 1 and 2. The Browns love Richardson. Kalil is already an elite left tackle and will be the best LT in football within 3 years.. and doubt the Jaguars go QB even in a redraft, though they might elect to go in a different direction from Blackmon.

Looking at the board, I'd say Wilson probably slides into pick 11 at the earliest (Kansas City). Or hell.. maybe we even take him at 15 instead of Irvin?
