For me, 2005 felt like 2005 when we dismantled the Eagles on MNF. A prime time game on the road that most pundits thought would be a tough battle. If we can do the same to the 49ers this week, then perhaps 2012 will feel a lot like 2012 in a future post as well.
Its beginning to feel alot like 2005..

It’s hard to compare teams from different eras and time may have left a favorable glow on the ’05 season but…
The reality is the only thing they had in common at week six was their record. We really had a MUCH more congenial schedule in ’05 and hindsight lets us tell how good/bad those teams we won/lost against really were.
By week six we had lost two games against the only winning teams on our schedule the 12-4 Jaguars and the 10-6 Redskins, both on the road. We scored 14 points and 17 points respectfully and lost by 12 points in Jacksonville and 6 points in Washington.
The only team close to a winning record (in those first six games) was a home win against the 8-8 Falcons which we barely beat by 3 and only scored 21 points. The rest of the schedule helped immensely to our overall stats in scoring 37 points each against the 5-11 Cardinals and the 6-10 Rams and 42 points against the 2-14 Texans.
Besides beating up on the “NFC Worst” the ’05 team never really went on a scoring binge until the shutout win against the 6-10 Eagles, Monday Night, on the road in week 13. In the end they only beat three more teams with winning records a 3 point win over the 9-7 Cowboys at home in week 7, the now infamous New York overtime game at the Clink in week 12, and another very satisfying home win against the 14-2 Colts.
All in all that ’05 team only played five teams with winning records that year, lost two, and only beat one by more than three points and that was in week 16. While it’s not for certain yet, except for the Panthers, we may have already played five teams that end up with winning records; with an offense that has yet to get both their feet on the ground…

After thinking about it, I do recall having some feelings about our inability to close out teams (Holmgrenism) and allowing inferior opponents to hang in there and eek out victories. Some of those games really stunk - I recall many up by 10 1st halves followed by consecutive 3 and outs in the 3rd qtr.
Don't get me wrong - that was a great team for us - in comparison to this team I do think it has a bunch of excellent attributes. Defense, running game, and clutch offense. That's a terrific recipe!

This is nothing like 2010, IMO. In both our losses to start that year we lost by 17 points and were quite dominated by Denver and St. Louis They year our 2 losses came down to the final drive. We are much more competive this year than in 2010. Remember also the San Deigo game-- Only reason we won was because of a superhero performance by Leon Washington with 2 returns for TD. Our defense was pretty poor that year. Our offense wasn't much better than what we got now..
Interesting Note-- 2012 Points for= 110, Points against= 93, a +17 differential.
2010 Points for= 120, Points against= 107, a +13 differential.

Yeah,
In all actuality the only thing the ’05 team had over this one, was a veteran offense that could put up a lot of points against much inferior teams, a much easier schedule (I think so far), and a RB with a nose for the endzone.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have that offense on this team, but the stats skew how good they really were, that and our memories wax fondly on that season…
