about the QB. Relax, Russell is doing pretty good and Pete's strategy is similar to what other coaches have had success with in the NFL. Similar but I do believe Pete needs to loosen the reins just a little bit, let Russell throw and audible it a little more. Hopefully he will at the beginning of the 2nd quarter of the 2012 season.

So, I went through QB stats for 1st and 2nd year QBs and they are fairly close to Russell's.

I went with the 2nd year if they had minimal to no starts in their 1st year.

Next to their total yards for the year, I put the average per game in parenthesis.

For Christian Ponder I added in this year because he has made a marked improvement.

Notice the yards per game, average yards per pass play, and completion percentage compared to Russell's.

Looking at a very successful team with one of the best defenses over the last 5-10 years, their QB, Ben has averaged ~3375 yards per year which is 210 per game. This seems counter intuitive, but that impression comes from the occasional bomb that Ben throws, hence his 8.0 ypa. The 3 years that they made the Superbowl, they averaged under 200 yards per game.

My point? You don't need to throw for a lot of yards every game to go deep in the playoffs unless your defense is mediocre.

Russell Wilson 4 60/100 60.0% Yards: 594 (148.5) YPA: 5.9 TD:4 INT: 4 Sacks: 8

Christian Ponder 1st 10 158/291 54.3% Yards: 1853 (185) YPA: 6.4 TD: 13 INT: 13 Sacks: 38!

2nd 4 84/123 68.3% Yards: 824 (206) YPA: 6.7 TD: 4 INT: 0 Sacks: 8

Drew Brees 2nd 16 320/526 60.8% Yards: 3,284 (205) YPA: 6.2 TD: 17 INT: 16 Sacks: 24

Mark Sanchez 2nd 15 278/507 54.8% Yards: 3291 (219.4) YPA: 6.5 TD: 17 INT: 13 Sacks: 27

Andy Dalton 1st 16 300/516 58.1% Yards: 3398 (212) YPA: 6.6 TD: 28 INT: 17 Sacks: 36

Josh Freeman 1st 9 158/290 54.5% Yards: 1855 (206) YPA: 6.4 TD: 10 INT: 18 Sacks: 20

Sam Bradford 1st 16 354/590 60.0% Yards: 3512 (219) YPA: 6.0 TD: 18 INT: 15 Sacks: 34

I'm not gonna bash Flynn, and I won't bash Wilson either. I'm not liking Pete's track record with Pro QBs. When it comes to defense, he can turn an average group into a top 10 unit in a short time by putting the players in a postion to maximise their ability. With QB's, he takes reverse approach by limiting what they can do. He shackles them to the point where dynamic becomes one-dimensional and where ski-high potential becomes a very low ceiling because of the play calling. He holds lack of interceptions so important that his QB is limited, in most cases, to being a 'caretaker' of the ball who is there merely to 'compliment' his defense.

Warren Moon's comment about Hass complaining about those same things is very revealing. Can an old dog like Pete learn new tricks?...I doubt it. Whether we have a winning season or losing one, I think we're stuck with very dull play and low production from the QB position.

That's what so frustrating. PC is a defensive guru but the offense is entrusted to DB who is no offensive genius. It's easy to go conservstive and be run heavy when you have no idea how to develop the passing game or how to adjust your pass protection in game. It could be as simple as taking your shots on second and short rather than taking the gimme 3 yard run. There is nothing about this offense in the first three quarters that strikes fear to opposing defenses.

Some have pointed out that It's easy for teams to prepare when our coaches make our offensive strategy known and playcalling is so predictable. That's not giving your team the edge it needs to win and contend.

Well, when Pete was HC in NE for the three years, his passing game averaged over 145 yds/gm, of course he had a 4 yr veteran who had won double figure games in a season twice, been to the playoffs twice, thrown for 4k yds twice, and had been to the Superbowl once in the past already sooo….

Oh yeah, he was the first overall pick in the “93” draft too… :p
