FOR THE ARCHIVES: Who's a Pro Bowler, who's a bust?

A collection of NET's best and most memorable threads. Predictions, debates, laughs, and X's & O's. Rating: PG to NC-17
  • Admins: Am I allowed to request that a thread be archived? :)

Time to put your cards on the table. If you want to say in three years "I knew that guy was going to be a bust" or "I told everyone we should draft him!" this is your reference point.

Rules: I've listed below 20 players that are likely to go in the first round. Your job is to (1) pick five players you predict will be consistently good, Pro Bowlers, All-Pros, however you want to define "worthy of a first-round pick." Then (2) pick five players who you predict will bust. Either complete failures, never living up to expectations, or however you want to define "not worthy of a first-round pick." So you must make a prediction on 10 out of the 20. If you want to make an additional prediction not involving one of these players, be my guest.

    Mike Iupati

    Bust

    Jimmy Clausen

  • I'm going to go with

    Worthy:

    Jimmy Clausen
    Joe Haden
    Gerald McCoy
    Earl Thomas
    Trent Williams

    Not Worthy:

    Dez Bryant
    Bruce Campbell
    Anthony Davis
    Jason Pierre-Paul
    Bryan Bulaga

And I think one of the 2 DT's is going to be a good player but not a sure fire hall of famer. (Went with McCoy on this one.)

    Bruce Campbell
Ndamukong Suh (I got a feeling)

  • This is a great pre-draft thread. I'm no talent evaluator, but I'll give it a go.

Worthy: I think all of these guys are highly talented and have the work ethic and temperment to succeed.
    Eric Berry
    Gerald McCoy
    Ndamukong Suh
Bryan Bulaga (as a right tackle)

    Earl Thomas
    Joe Haden
    Rolando McClain
    C.J. Spiller

5 Most likely to Bust (of this list):

    Jason Pierre-Paul

4 Prospects who will be better than expected:

    Dez Bryant
    Jimmy Clausen
    Bruce Campbell
    Bryan Bulaga

4 Prospects who won't bust but might disappoint high expectations:

    Gerald McCoy

  • I'd like to add a couple later round picks that I believe will be pro-bowlers

Amari Spievey, especially if drafted by a team that uses a cover-2 (Rnd 3ish)
Toby Gerhart, he'll dominate defenses, and is the kind of guy who will improve every year (Rnd 3ish)

  • Pro Bowlers - I like the defensive players in the top end of the draft
    Berry
    Suh
    McCoy
    McClain
    Haden

    Below expectations
Clausen - Has to wind up to put zip on the ball and gets distracted by the pass rush.
    Davis - Poor work ethic.
Cambell - Great athlete but seems to lack some football instinct.
Bulaga - Will be drafted as LT and could be a pro bowler but at RT not LT. Therefore he falls into this category.
D Bryant - Off the field issues and immaturity will eventually bring him down.
