Not everyone is like you. Look at Nicolas Cage. Most people don't know he was born Nicolas Coppola, nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, and that he changed his name because he wanted to make it on his own.

I moved out from living with my parents when I was 17. I'm not a fan of handouts; but I get why most people are.

There is a lot of speculating in this thread. Gregoire's daughter may be a very qualified, tenacious person. Or she may be riding her mother's coattails. Has anyone met this qualified/nepotistic woman?

I haven't, 12evanf, and that's why I'm asking; I can't find anything on her. I know quite a bit about Queen Christine, though, and if her daughter's eating out of her hand, that doesn't bode well for her being independent from mom's habits.

Of course I've seen many worse appointments, nobody's claiming this is some new level of corruption; but I'm honestly curious, what credibility does she have? What has she done? She has no Wikipedia page entry, and everything on Google for her name is just the stuff already linked here.

There are 5 current PCs and none of them have a Wikipedia page.

I wasn't using it as a point against her. I am honestly asking, can somebody point to anything whatsoever that she has done to earn credibility in the public eye? I truly want to know, even if it's something that paints her in a good light.

Found something!: http://trade.gov/press/bios/gregoire.asp

This corroborates that that is her: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/10/fashi ... .html?_r=0

For those not inclined to click:

Quote:
Courtney previously served as the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Department of Commerce. Before joining the Obama administration, she served as Legislative Director and Chief Counsel for United States Senator Maria Cantwell. She previously worked as a policy assistant with the Domestic Policy Council in the Clinton White House. Courtney began her career at K&L Gates, an international law firm, counseling companies on legislative and regulatory matters.

Note that K&L is her husband's law firm and that she seemed to advance quickly in the political world during her mother's governorship. The fact that she is seemingly handling these jobs with success leads me to believe that she is qualified for the Port Commissioner job. However, she most likely has used her name to enhance her meteoric success.

Hmmm, she has definitely been handed a lot of stuff. She did graduate from Harvard Law School, though. I guess she's a bit young to see if she can really handle this or not; time will tell. I don't like it, because it seems like she's going to become someone powerful years down the road, but didn't earn much of it. A common theme in politics, unfortunately; and one that Queen Christine abused widely during her terms as governor.

I hope the daughter is of a different mold.

Show me what makes Queen Christine's daughter worthy of being a candidate for this seat. Then the leap from there to being worthy of being the candidate to win it.

Also, did you miss the part about how she gave her own daughter a Seattle Community Colleges board seat? You think it's about accusations with no proof? How about implied accusations based on past factual history? Gimme a fuckin' break, razor.

Granted I know little about her, so educate my on why she shouldn't have landed any of those jobs? All I can see right now is hate because of who her mother is. Who her mother is has nothing to do with her and her qualifications.

Actually, I don't think you do "get" it.

There's already one proven example of nepotism, when she accepted the board seat for the Seattle Community Colleges board, handed directly to her by her mom. That's pure fact and not arguable. Are you trying to say you think Courtney Gregoire would never accept anything else from mom? It's certainly possible, but it seems pretty naive, to me. That doesn't mean she's not capable of performing the job, but come on; do you really think my opinion on this is based exclusively on the fact that her mom's a corrupt bitch? That factors into it in a big way, for sure; but it's also damned sure not the only reason. Yes, I am making some assumptions, here; but as the saying goes, where there's smoke, there's usually fire; and there's a lot of smoke here.

@Sutz: That's your opinion, and you're certainly entitled to it.

I am not saying anything, I don't know a damned thing about her. If she was offered a good job by her mother she'd be a fool not to take it is she thought she could do the job. The problem, imo, is more on the mother's side if anything inappropriate was going on due to her hiring. Unless the daughter shows she doesn't deserve the jobs she's received I don't think she should be punished because of the sins of her mother.

Granted I work in a company that is rampant with nepotism, I don't agree with it but I can't do anything about it. So it has probably made me less sensitive to the subject.
