They were different. Chavez steered profits from oil to the poor and very poor in his country, created hospitals and clinics and schools where there had never been any before and helped to unite a region and raise the standard of living. Yes, he did so by demonizing the US and killing a bunch of people in the process.

Dick helped orchestrate two wars that destroyed our surplus, put us deeper in debt and lowered our standard of living, costing thousands of American troops their lives, and hundreds of thousands of anonymous brown people their lives.

Good to see the bullshit propaganda about Chavez is still alive and well with suckers who believe it. Chavez is a dictator like George W. Bush and Barack Obama were and are dictators, freely elected by the people of their nation. There is much you can say about Chavez that is unflattering and is true without having to resort to the bullshit this thread has resorted to. I am no lover of Chavez, on the opposite end I stopped following the Green Party after Jill Stein posted something about how great the guy was. The demonization by some and the lionization of him by others has gone beyond ridiculous.

The United States hated him because he hated the US, and we were all to willing to play the villain for him when we supported a coup against him, and because he took away oil wells from American companies when he did his government take over of them.
