Color me shocked. A lot of people in this forum got on my nuts when I ranted about the Port of Seattle and longshoremen/their union a while back. Well, put this in your pipe and smoke it. http://www.king5.com/news/investigators ... 65051.htmlGotta discriminate and take care of those campaign donors! Long live corrupt politics! (As if there's any other kind.)

Was it people getting on you about the Port of Seattle and the longshoremen's union, or was it that you seem to have a tendency to identify abuses by, say, the longshoremen's union and then make broad accusations about unions in general based on that?

Oh Volsung, I know I do that. (Make the generalizations about unions.) What annoyed me so much was it's a demonstrable pattern of behavior in a lot of powerful unions. I'm also not referring to the recent discussion about that a few months back, I'm talking about the really heated one that was more than a year ago. I also brought up corruption by a lot of different entities in that thread, such as the King County Metro bus drivers, auto workers, machinists, teachers, and a variety of others with a ton of examples of being thugs/corrupt. A number of people jumped all over me basically ignoring the linked evidence and just discarding what I said because they wanted to believe it was just bias on my part, and that there's no way so many different powerful unions could be corrupt in a lot of ways and do thuggish things, like hold security guards hostage, which the longshoremen did.
All kinds of bad crap happens regularly, but since most liberals perceive union members as just working stiffs trying to make a decent "living wage", (a code for 'as much as possible even if it kills the company') a lot of it gets ignored or marginalized.
Also, I'd like to add that most conservatives view unions as pure evil dollar-sucking entities from which there is no escape, and that's BS as well; though for obvious reasons, unions aren't generally good for the employer in a lot of cases.
Edit after 6 days: Lol, color me shocked that this thread gets ignored by virtually everyone in this forum. Further evidence that there's little defense for powerful unions. 36-page thread on gun control, but one reply in this.
