Why would suicides matter anyway? That's a personal choice. If I ever want to die I would be thankful for having an effective way to take my own life like having access to a gun.

If you weren't a selfish prick, you'd probably realize that suicide affects more than just the person taking their own life.

You make a good point. Using a gun for suicide is a sloppy way to go and probably will scar the person who finds you. Luckily, I've never been in that situation, but I've had friends who've found gun-suicides. A decade later they can tell you exactly what the person's face/body looked like...and it's never a pretty picture.

Personally, if a person wants to commit suicide, that's their decision. But one should have some consideration for the person who's going to find your fucking body. Do it neatly please!!

I have a friend that when he was just a kid, about 8, discovered his dad after he shot himself. I know a woman that is raising a child by herself because her husband, one of my classmates from elementary school, decided to end his life. Taking your on life has a ripple effect and causes damages to all that love and need you.

Y'all might want to check your Switzerland facts.

Not every male over 19 goes into the military. They are not ordered to keep their firearms after their service is up. According to Wiki, only about 30% of Swiss households have firearms.

Here's another thing for those who think if everyone could have a gun, there would be less crime. This Country used to be that way...it was called the Wild West. How'd that work out?

From what I know about the "Wild West" Lymon, it wasn't because of the huge availability of firearms but instead it was partly because of the trains full of orphaned children that were sent out west and pretty much dropped off to fend for themselves. Some were put in caring homes, but most were signed off on and then just dropped off at a train station for someone who wouldn't ever come to pick them up.

Quote:
Orphans ... Foundlings ... Waifs ... Half-Orphans ... Street Arabs ... Street Urchins ... all terms used to describe the children who rode the Orphan Trains. When the Orphan Train movement began, in the mid-19th century, it was estimated that approximately 30,000 abandoned children were living on the streets of New York. And over the 75 year span of the Orphan Train movement, it is estimated that between 150,000 and 200,000 "orphan" children were relocated to new homes via the Orphan Trains. But the term "orphan" is used loosely in many cases. Some children were true orphans, no parents, no other family to look after them, living on the streets, sleeping in doorways, fending for themselves by whatever means necessary. But many of these children had parents. Some were "half-orphans", one parent had died and the remaining parent could not care for them, so they were placed in an orphanage. Some children still had both parents, but were merely "turned loose" by the parents because the family had grown too large and they couldn't care for all the children. Some were run-aways - from abuse, drunkeness, etc.

Above is from a site that pretty much says that all the orphans lived happily ever after. There are other sources who say that's a lie.

This link has more about how the orphans were sent west, and how it wasn't a very pretty picture for them at home either. Once history passes by, it tends to be written of glowingly by the people who were a part of it, so I think the truth was somewhere in the middle of the two links.

You're right about Switzerland though, but it doesn't really support an anti-gun agenda either way. 30% is still pretty high, and in the past the militia WAS required to keep their service weapon.

Forgive me for trying to bring up the issue from another point of view.

And what a fresh & compelling point of view it is!
