I don't think anyone here thinks violent games should be outlawed.

If a kid enjoys violent video games AND gets good grades is it because of the video games?

I have better theory: violent video games cause obesity. Especially the really cool ones.

Desensitization is a very real thing. So is brain stimulation and increased hand-eye coordination. Also entertainment can uplift spirits and keep people, kids especially, from doing stupid shit because they're bored. So violent video games can, in theory, both promote violence and keep people from violence. Hence, we should all just stop trying and die. Right now.

I just love how video games are only the cause of negatives. They dont get credit when a child succeed, so they shouldn't be blamed if they fail.
No one here ACTUALLY buys into the violent video game arguement, right?
Yes bitches, its the offseason, I'll be back laying the smackdown.
PWR, NICKLES!
Nice Zeb.

Nice Zeb. I think some credit is given for video games. I also think that video games "could" cause problems, but it probably affects a percentage similar to the same percentage of firearms that are used in mass murders.

Welcome back Pe. PWR FTW!
Violent video games may lead to desensitization but desensitization doesn't lead to murders. There is a disconnect in that chain of logic. If bullied kids with a propensity for violence play violent video games I'd bet its more cathartic than a stepping stone.

So, by that rationale, any kid that doesn't shoot someone is peaceful because of video games?

Nobody ever killed somebody or hijacked a train and ran it through a house because of a video game. If somebody is killed or a train is hijacked and ran through a house it's because somebody is really fucked up.

If you raise your kids right, limit their use to a reasonable amount, I don't see it as a problem.
If however you let, the TV, their peers, and the Xbox (or other game system) raise your kids for you, WTF do you expect?

So, I CANT credit video games for making my daughter great at math and socially advanced. But, I can BLAME video games if she decides to stab someone.
That about right?
Sounds like parents not wanting to admit they stink, to me.

Playing a game where you run around and shoot people in the head or hijack trains could probably potentially persuade a person who's at risk of running around shooting people in the head or hijacking a train that it would be ok to do so. Especially if his/her parents are fuck ups.

Sounds like parents not wanting to admit they stink, to me. You pretty much summed it up. Now go tackle childhood obesity, it's too late for us old fat fucks.

Sounds like parents not wanting to admit they stink, to me. You are comparing 2 separate actions. For example, giving alcohol to a group of people, a very small percentage may find that they have a negative reaction/dependency to alcohol. Giving alcohol to the others in the group doesn't make them "not" have negative reaction/dependency, it just gives them a buzz. Providing violent video games to a group may cause many to develop many skills, however there may be a small percentage that has a mental handicap that "may" cause them to imitate something they have seen in violent videos. It doesn't mean that there was bad parenting, just something that "could" have set off a person who isn't all there. This person might also be "set off" by the wind blowing from the wrong direction as well.

How many people would've slaughtered people, sans video games giving them an escape?

Here's a thought. Nut up and take responsibility for your life and stop blaming inanimate objects and the actions of others for your own fuck-ups.

All this is just parents excusifying and further removing themselves from the actual job called "parenting". Makes me physically ill.
