Judas Priest !!!!!!!! TONIGHT in Tacoma Nov. 22

The Lounge is for non-sport-related topics other than politics, war and religion. Order up your favorite beverage, kick back and enjoy the conversation! RATING: PG-13
  • I saw them on the "final" tour a couple years ago after the departure of KK Downing. They didn't miss a beat and are still one of the best live bands out there. They will release a new album in July and a limited tour after that.

To all of you that have never seen a metal act, I would suggest going to one of their shows...You listening Throw?

  • Priest and Maiden ruled my childhood years! I would love to see them one last time, however KK was/is one of my favorite guitarists and still a little bent over how that all went down. I am sure the new guy is good but its just not the same for me anymore. What little I have heard of the new album is not so good, too bad Nostradamus was quite good.

  • As much as I like KK, the guy they got to replace him (Ritchie Faulkner) is definitely no slouch and honestly, he blew me away, you simply cannot tell the difference. And from what I understand KK was just tired of touring.

The band still kills it, trust me.

  • Judas have produced some of the most memorable guitar riffs out there.

"Hot Rockin", "Breakin the Law", Livin after Midnight, (et. al.). Simple, yet brilliant. Thing about their songs is just enough thought was put into the transitions/bridges and the choruses as well the verse riffs. And then there are the solo breaks...

So many other bands find a great lick, but it falls apart during the verses and breaks, not so with JP.

  • Priest is definitely a must see act for anyone. Halford still kills it on vocals and always puts on a great show. Another good band that still kills it is Twisted Sister, saw them for the first time Memorial weekend at Rocklahoma, blew me away.

  • Hey Mongo, the new album kicks ass. not sure what you are listening too except what you posted in the other thread. In fact that thread has been relegated. Maybe you and Vols are the only ones that like that style of alternative stuff, for me, it is :(

I guess you are looking for some sort of alternative metal. Most of the stuff posted in that thread to me is utter garbage, it reminds me of someone just searching for something new, however, there isn't anything in that entire thread of alternative bands that is compelling. Priest is delivering what they always have, and Redeemer of Souls is just that. Rob is better than ever. Scott is a monster on drums, Glenn and Ian are steady as ever.

I saw them 2 years ago and Ritchie Faulkner is a completely incredible guitarist. KK who?

Can't wait to see them in November. Scott has asked me to come backstage so I am Jacked.

  • In regards to the new priest album, it's as if I have already heard it, after Nostradamus I had hoped they would again reach out and do something new and interesting, instead they went back to the old formula and made ram it down 2. News flash r it down 1 sucked. It's right up there with turbo on the list of bad albums. IMHO pinion it's the 3rd worst album they have made so far......and yes I do have then all. :-)

  • Here is the thing......Priest has been together for over 30 years. They do what they do and frankly have kept the same formula all their career. Most musicians have their best songs in their first two releases.

These guys are in their 60's except Ritchie & Scott, I just can't believe that they still kick ass on a high level at their ages.

It really isn't realistic to think they are going to be cranking out "hits" or wow us with some new style of the same formula.

Songs are constructed using the same method, theory. I am certainly not saying that good music isn't being made but one thing it does need is the ability to keep a person interested and grooving. All the sings on the new release aren't great, but it isn't crap either. I suggest going to see them, then make a judgement.

I love Sword of Damacles, Cold Blooded and Valhalla, can't wait to party with Scott. :)

  • Rush did change up a bit with the 80's keyboard stuff, but their formula is pretty much the same.

    Why mess with perfection?

    Agreed.

I own them all, on every media platform, and they are protected better than my bank account, but I generally drop the grouping after Signals and before Snakes & Arrows from my normal playlist for too much boards and too-out-there guitar sounds.

Hemispheres is the best sound they ever created, IMHO, with P-Waves and Mov-Pic venturing into radio-playing territory but maintaining the mix I need to hear.

I was going to do it before you, but was thinking on focusing on J.P.....

They are both past their primes but still kick ass. we will never see this again in the rock world. The stuff being churned out now is forgotten as fast as it is heard.
