I took my nephew to see it in 3-D on opening weekend. Understanding that I own all the previous extended-length DVDs and have watched them way more than necessary, and I have read all the books over and over, I say it was a good watch. In fact, when Christmas is over I'm taking the wifey and seeing it again. One word of warning though - in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, each movie was self-contained since that's how the publisher made Tolkien write the books. This is just the middle of the one book with the usual additions and alterations to make a compelling story into a good movie, so you may come away from the movie with a 'WTF, don't end it like that!' feeling. I compared it to the middle movie of Back to the Future, since they both are obviously middle-of-three movies so the ending doesn't leave things resolved - more of a cliffhanger.

Just got back and we both loved the movie. Definitely see it in IMAX 3-D, it was excellent.

It was cool, but I thought the super high frame rate that they filmed the movie made it look like a BBC documentary or a day time soap. It was weird.

"The barrel" was awesome.

You'll know it when you see it.

That may become a ride, or some other parts of the movie could easily be a ride.

I enjoyed the barrel scene as well, but I think it would have been better if he puked his guts out at the end.

I think I'm gonna wait until all 3 are out and just marathon the whole thing. Going be hard to wait, but oh well.

Twisted, trust me, go see this in IMAX 3-D.

I watched the high frame rate imax 3d version.

Good movie. The high frame rate 3d at times was stunning, at other times kinda sucked. A bit uneven but overall a something unique and interesting.

Would watch again.

Saw it this afternoon and enjoyed it. The one thing I was most worried about was well done in the movie, and that was the dragon. I was scared Smaug would be totally under-represented visually, and was happily surprised with the footage that included him. Well done there.

And having seen this, and now onto a LOTR/Hobbit #1 movie marathon, it struck me that ol' J.R.R. had somewhat of a thing with gargantuan stone statues and secret passages.

Got back from it a little while ago. It was okay and I dozed a bit during the battle with Smaug.

I am also starting an LOTR marathon this evening.

A classmate of mine walked out of it within 20 mins. She said it was not her idea and kinda boring. I am waiting for the 3rd one then will do all 3 at one time. I dont wanna deal with a cliffhanger as I knew it was gonna be.

I gotta admit, on initial viewing I wasn't blown away. I'll have to watch it again, obviously, but it really seemed like a lot of filler to me. Smaug was amazing though, they did a great job there for sure.

You should probably stay home and play GTA XVIII or something.

Thank you for posting this Axx. I had never seen Honest Trailers Youtube channel before and that is some quality viewing.

Took my kids to see it Monday. We all enjoyed it and I can't wait for the third movie.
