Some men are more fruity than others, as far as beverages go at least.

I still don't get why they don't try to target women at all. I don't have their demographic data but it cannot be so heavily male that all commercials focus on them.

Serious question. If a fruit-based beer is made, but it's not sweet at all, is it still unmanly to drink it? (I never drink fruit-based beers, but I could potentially see a market for it without looking like a wuss.)

They're sour as hell and deeeelicious. Except when the wild yeast causes bad things to happen to your digestive system. Then, uh..not so much.

I've tried some lambics at the Seattle International Beer Festival last year and this year. So they are not considered girly drinks, and one can walk into a bar and order some, chest hair all on display, and not have to be concerned about their image?

Good to know.

I love girly drinks. Hell, just a week ago I went to a local bar with a bandmate and I tried ordering a Cabernet or whatever the "house red" is.

She looked at me and said, "Honey, you're in a dive bar. Don't order wine." Served!

Most men are too wimpy to enjoy the sour and the funk.

I'm a wine drinker, too. I know the differences between wimpy, having refined taste, and manly relatively well.

Nothing girly about cider. There's a time and a place, and it's no ale, but it's a good drink.

After seeing Redd's Apple Ale advertised so much, I went out and got a six-pack. I've only had a couple so far, but gotta say they taste pretty damn good, a nice refreshing alternative to normal beer. Don't see it becoming my mainstay, and certainly not what I would tailgate with, but works well when I get home from work and need a beverage while relaxing.

I don't drink ever (health concerns), but I had an array of Anrgy Orchards..and they weren't terrible.

When I feel like pissing blood, I'll knock back some Rum or Scotch...otherwise, not worth the pain.

Austin, can you tell us how sweet is it? On a scale of "normal beer" to "Mike's Hard Sugar Coma", preferably.

@Largent: You know, I haven't actually tried their Apricot Ale. I've had most everything else from Pyramid, though. I'll have to check it out.

What do flavored beer and fat chicks have in common?

They are both really good until your friends see you with them.

Yeah it is. I haven't had this year's Great Pumpkin, but a few years ago, that beer was even better than Dark O' The Moon. (Last year's Great Pumpkin was a disappointment, though. :( )

Apricot Ale is for lesbians. Well, all my lesbian friends (and by 'friends' I mean two) drink it.

For fruit beers with Pyramid I like the Strawberry Blonde Saison.

I thought Fruity beers were like the hillbilly, date rape, drink of choice. Like a modern day adaptation of Bartles and James Peach wine cooler. Buy em for the "Ladies", end of story.

When I brew a "fruit ale" I try to downplay the chosen fruit. I don't want it to overpower the natural flavors of the malt, yeast or hops. I just did a apple hefe. And though the apple flavor came out just a little too understated, it was still there. I don't want to brew a fruit beer where the flavor is so prominent that, though it might be good, you'd only be able to drink just 1 and then have to move on. To me, to brew a beer where the fruit flavor is so outfront that it dominates what an ale is all about, malts, yeast and hops...just isn't right. But thats just me.
